notebook hard drive
i have a 6gb that works with it and when i put in a 40gb it freezes at autodetecting ide devices, any suggestions?

Could be limitations of the hardware. An older BIOS would get confused at anything over 32GB, a really old BIOS would freak after 8GB.

any way to bypass this, change bios(without resoldering the chip, maby a hacked bios), someway of faking it out, anything i didn't think of...???

There should be a jumper on your drive to set it to 32gb. If that isn't there, I have no idea.
Look at the laptop manufacture's site for any manuals or FAQs they might have about your model. There might be information there that can help you. |

newest bios from hp and its a n3250, look on the hitachi site and it didn't have a 32gb jumper setting.

Is this a brand new drive? Try formatting it via USB external case if you got it.

no i got it from a friend but i have tried it in two other older notebooks and it worked perfectly, and i don't think that matters if the bios doesn't like it.
