questions about new computer and pci slots
I recently bought one a new computer, and right now in my 2 available pci slots I have (I believe) a tv tuner card, and firewire. In my old computer I had a wireless G card that I'd like to put into my new computer, but dont have space. Is there anything I can do? Or should I get a wireless usb adapter? Right now I have a usb B adapter, but its so slow.

If you only have 2 slots and both are taken, then you can't use the card unless you remove one of the other two.
You could get a USB adapter; that's your call. You'd want to get a USB 2.0 adapter because of the speed/bandwidth...architecture (?) of a USB terminal...USB 1.1 is 12 Mbit/second and USB 2.0 is 480Mbit/second...if you're running a 'g' setup, that runs 54Mbit/second, and if your adapter is a USB 1.1, well then all you're going to get out of it is 12 Mbit/second even if you're using a 'g' adapter. (Because of the fact that the maximum that the 1.1 adapter will output is 12 Mbit, even though the 'g' adapter is capable of receiving 54 Mbit.) Long story short - if you get a USB 'g' adapter - make sure it's USB 2.0 and you'll be set. ![]() |
