"Out of Range" on LCD Monitor

I hooked up my laptop to an Olevia 20" LCD TV Monitor (800 X 600) and I am getting this message on the screen. OS is Windows XP with 14" screen on laptop.

The monitor works with my desk top computer using a Hauppauge TV card.

make sure your laptop is set to the exact same resolution & refresh rate as your desktop, then try hooking it up again. Out of range tends to mean that one of those settings is outside the range that your monitor can support.

Yup... to be safe set your PC to 640 x 480 resolution at 60 Hz and work you way up to what your LCD TV can support.

More than likely it's your refresh rate. LCDs only support 60Hz.

I rebooted the laptop and it happened again. All the settings are the same as I reset them ?????

EDIT: I disconnected the monitor, hooked it up to a smaller LCD monitor and it works. So I rehook the original monitor and it works again. It must have something to do with the booting process, because I have been putting the laptop on Standby mode before this happened.
