hard drive problem

Every time i do anything that access one of my hard drives, my system pretty much just hangs and I am forced to reboot with the button on my computer. This problem just seemed to happen, I didnt do anything that I can think of to cause it ( I deleted an MSOcache folder, but that apparently is just microsoft office setup files). I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be, or if there is a way to save the files. Like I can access and see the files but after about 20 secs, the hanging begins. Any ideas? THANKS!

Have you tried running CHKDSK from the Recovery console?

Have you overclocked at all?

I found that I had somewhat similar problems when I started overclocking my system. I'm not sure if it's the same symptoms.. but I would run into problems where I could double-click on something on the desktop, or open a file or something.. but after about 30sec's of being in Windows I wouldnt be able to open up anymore files and stuff.

It turned out to be a sign from my memory that I had used settings that were too aggressive for it to handle at the frequencies I was needing.

If you're not overclocking, then I'm stumped.. if you arent noticing 'broken' noises coming from the drive, then there's nothing I can say other than reinstalling _may_ fix it.

Definitely run a chkdsk and do a deep scan of the drive if you're not overclocking it. If you are, try lowering the frequency, or giving the ram less agressive settings.
