Apple crisp recipe

Hi. I'm looking for a good apple crisp recipe. I tried making one from a recipe that I saw on-line yesterday and was gravely disappointed in the results. The apple part was fine (I guess kinda hard to mess that part up) but the crispy crust left a lot to be desired. If anyone has tried an apple crisp recipe here that they like, I would greatly appreciate it. TIA.

Make your apples as you would, then mix up about 4 cups quick cooking oats with 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, 1/2 cup of flour and 2-3 sticks of melted butter (add the butter while slowly mixing the dry ingredients, once you can form a ball with the dough and it doesn't fall apart, you've got your dough....depending on the size of the oats, you might need more or less butter..
take 1/2 the mix and press it into a cookie sheet, add your apple filling, and then crumble the rest of the filling ontop of the apples...bake till brown. 350 degrees. (add a pinch of salt if the butter is not salted)

But obby left out the all-important final step: invite us all over to sample the results.

i made an apple pie on friday night and it looked all funky. mainly because i didn't quite "sprinkle" the dough on top of the apples because they werne't crumbly enough. so i put them in balls like cookies hoping they'd flatten out. but they just stayed round. hehe.

eh? crumbly dough? why didn't you just make your crumbs out of flour, brown sugar and butter?

I finally had a chance to try Obby's apple crisp recipe and it was great.

Any other recipe's you (or anyone else here) would recommend? I have a week off and am looking to improve my cooking/baking skills.

TIA.

How about this:

4 Large Granny Smith apples
1/3 cup Sugar
2 tbsp Lemon juice
1 tsp Ground cinnamon
1/2 cup Firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup All-purpose flour
1/2 cup Quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup Butter or margarine, cut into tiny pieces

To prepare it
Preheat the oven to 350. Peel, core and slice apples. Place the apples in a large bowl. sprinkle them with sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon. Toss the apples to coat evenly. Transfer the apples to a 9-inch square baking dish.

In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, flour and oats. Using a pastry blender or two knives scissor-fashion, cut butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the apple mixture.

Bake the apples until the crumb topping is crisp, about 30 minutes. Spoon the warm apple crisp into small bowls and serve immediately, or let the apple crisp cool and serve it at room temperature.

MMMMM YUMMY

How about some good ol' fashioned Bread Pudding..it's a nice treat for fall..

8 slices day old bread-broken up in bite sized pieces (use plain white please)
1 large mixing bowl
4 eggs beaten
1 can of evaporated milk (beaten in with eggs)
1 cup of brown sugar (beaten in with eggs and milk)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon (added to egg/milk mixture and whisked in)
1/2 stick of butter-cut into small pieces and added to egg mixture.
pour mixture over bread-toss together with hands-if too liquidy add more bread one slice broken up, at a time till mixture can form a ball. Spread into buttered baking dish, and place "shaved" butter on top until covered..sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over butter..bake at 350 until browned. (you can also add fruit to bread pudding, chopped and peeled apples, raisins,(golden work great!)..or anything you like that doesn't have a high water content..

Hehehe, the bread pudding was pretty good, although I didn't have any evaporated milk on hand so I used this powdered cappuchino mix which worked out pretty well.

Thanks again and any more recipes that anyone has tried that they like that I can practice with would be appreciated. TIA.

here's a quickie....
take a can of roll out biscuit dough (pillsbury buttermilk or store brand..whatever)..roll them out one at a time on a lightly floured surface..then brush with a bit of butter..in the middle, put a good sized portion of your favorite pie filling, (canned cherry, lemon or apple work good here)..then fold over and press with fork to seal the edges..bake until golden at 350 (or deep fry if you have a fryer)..then sprinkle with powdered sugar if you like and EAT THEM ALL UP..mmmm..very good hot!-almost like McDonalds pies
you can also use a savory filling like chicken and veggies, or ground beef and taco type seasoning..mmmm..or even PIZZA type filling ..it's a pretty quick way to make a handy walk around type meal or snack!

Mmmmm... I may try the bread pudding. I love bread pudding but hate having to pick out the raisins that are usually in there.

This recipe worked out pretty well also although I adapted it a little. I got the pillsbury croissants instead and stuffed it with brie cheese, walnuts, and brown sugar and made little snack-sized Brie en Croute. Man, I'm not looking forward to going back to work next week. It's nice having the time to cook/bake.
