Anyone ever buy meat packages from a butcher?

I never have, and wondering about them. I found a butcher here in LV and the cuts looked good, now I just don't know about the prices vs. the set packages...

Opinions are very welcome

Pkg #1
$89.00 - 39 lbs
10 lbs ground beef (one pound pkgs)
one 10 lb bag chicken leg and thigh quarters
One 4 lb 7-bone roast
Two 2 1/2 lb round steaks (1 in a pkg)
4 lbs sirloin tip steaks (1 steak in a pkg)
One pkg 3 lbs end cut pork chops
3 lbs ribeye steaks (2 steaks in a pkg)

Pkg #2
$129.00 - 53 lbs
10 lbs ground beef (one pound pkgs)
one 10 lb bag chicken leg and thigh quarters
Two 4 lb 7-bone roast (1 roast in a pkg)
Two 2 1/2 lb round steaks (1 in a pkg)
4 lbs sirloin tip steaks (1 steak in a pkg)
5 lbs end cut pork chops (split into 2 pkgs)
2 lbs beef cube steaks (1 pkg)
4 lbs T-bone steaks (1 steak in a pkg)
5 lbs ribeye steaks (2 steaks in a pkg)

They also have where you can get sides and front/hind quarters for $ per lb. at 300/150/150 lbs approx and you can choose the cuts. But I don't want to do that until I try them out...

I am going to pick up chicken breast tomorrow - 6 lbs boneless and skinless for $1.69 per lb. and possibly one of the pkgs...

whatcha think?

I've bought meat packs before and they're usually much better than buying individually. They're great if you don't have the freezer room to buy a whole or half cow.

We used to get the packages from Country Butcher Shop in Downey. They had some excellent assortments and it was all properly wrapped for freezer storage.

Those sound like decent deals. Hope you like it.

Definately go with package two. I would. It's almost like the package I buy here from "The Butcher Boys"..And while butcher paper wrappings are good..purchasing one of those package sealing machines would also be an integral part of purchasing large packages of meat because they keep fresher longer when you seal them....

I don't know why, but I had to laugh at this. I'm picturing a big cow shivering in a big freezer. Or even funnier, a big half-cow shivering in a half-freezer. But it's probably because I'm tired.
