quick bar question
I'm pretty new to the bar scene. So if somebody can answer this question for me...or...you know...opinions...that would be dandy.
I'm here home...all by myself, do you people ususally go to the bar by yourselves? to meet people? just for a drink? social atmosphere? Cuz it's 6.30pm here in hong kong...and I'm pretty bored. My friend I usually go out with is out with his woman friend, and he left me here all along...(jerk) so do you peeps go out to bars by yourself much?

Not much, but I used to. In NOLA, "Oswald's," Harry Anderson's bar, always had a good crowd of great people, so I used to frequent it, as I had a lot of friends there. It was a lot like Cheers - where everyone knows your name, blah blah blah. It was the first bar that I actually felt a part of. And some nights, I managed the entertainment there as well (big nightclub room with nice stage, etc., where Harry performed a few days/week.) Then it closed a few months ago when Harry moved away from NOLA. I now have no bar. ![]() |

I have before, but as Houdini said, it's a bar that I'm a regular at and know the bartenders, owner, and usual patrons.
Even then, I'm not a big fan of going to a bar alone. I'm a social drinker, so drinking by myself paying more for alcohol instead of being at home relaxing with a drink is not an appealing idea. |

i think it depends on your plan. i enjoy going out with a group of people to socialize with and have a drink or two. If you want to meet someone, i would suggest going in pairs or by yourself because too many people will definitely intimidate one person approaching you or the person you are with.
So its all a matter of what you want to do, but unless its a bar where you know a lot of regulars, i wouldn't roll alone.

yeah...my main plan is to chill and stuff. But I can do that at home with some beer and the TV. bar drinks are quite expensive. I guess I'm paying for the social atmosphere.

When I was single, I ventured out to a bar by myself. It's harder for women to do than for men, I think, because you tend to attract the wrong crowd. But it's a great way to meet new people because it kind of forces you to be social.

LOL, I was much younger in those days, and somewhat fearless.
I think it helps if you're in a college town, because you'll find people who are much more gregarious in those types of places. |

I need to get out more often too. I suck at meeting people.

an update... it's been fun...and I'm still having fun. networking, getting more friends. meeting very HOT women. I'm not going there with the intention of getting into bed with them...which is cool cuz I think women can see right through guys with that purpose. So I think our convos are more chill. also...being in hong kong, it's an international hub, and i'm pretty sure if I were in a bar in the US, I wouldn't have met such a diverse cocktail (no pun intended) of people. meeting people from all over europe, asia, america. it's fun... |
