Toronto overview
The city is wonderful. I loved the Chinatown district with all the street venders and shops. The area has all types of goods to buy from: people selling those 1-800- telephone cards, 24 hour vegetable stands, t-shirts and hats, jade and diamond jewery, and Oriental dresses that are all silk and handmade. Shops with freshly dressed out ducks and turtles hanging in the windows, and soup and dumplings prepared to your desire. There is the smell and aroma of fresh China spices in the air every place so that you think your in China walking around.
I went into one of the many gift shops and bought a set of 3 hand carved wooden boxs we did some price haggling and I got all the boxes for $45 Canadian out the door. That was a savings of like 45% off the price listed and I didn't pay the 13% taxes. Then we went to the fashion district. Here things were interesting to say the least. You had stores selling fashion jeans and jacket that were $150 next to a one selling old dresses. Or a surplus store (never went in so no idea what they really sold). There was a guy on the street here selling clay figures of gumby figures out of his van. I asked what a bride and groom gumby went for and he said $90. So guess what I did (you guessed it I walked away). Then there was the fur shops, and the guy that fell asleep on the side walk in the rain and used the parking curb as a pillow. Seem like every corner had a movie and dvd store selling all kinds of media! We went to the entertainment at night. The bars were packed and you had to wait in line outside for a minimum of 45 minutes to get into the one you wanted (this was at 7-8 pm Saturday). We decided to leave that area anyway then stand in line. On the way to the other area I stopped in a small burrito shop. That was downstairs or below a office (very good idea). I ordered a steak burrito. They offered 2 sizes-large and super large made your way by adding rice, veggies, cheese, refried beans, and 3 different types of sausages. We ordered just the large and it fed the 3 of us so that we were all full after eating it. Then went to the sports bar (hoops) to watched the Detroit Tigers win the last game. And drank Molsons all night. One thing I learned is you don't want to buy memory sticks in Canada. The prices are twice what you pay in the states. ![]() Well I'll finish this tomorrow when I'm not so tired. To be completed! RENO ![]()
