Question Kids and rashes

Well yesterday morning I noticed a rash on my son Cameron, who is 20 months old. I first saw it on his face and I thought it was hives, So I washed his face and they started to lighten up in color. Well an hour or so later I noticed he had several on his arms so I checked his legs and he has them on his legs. Not one spot on his tummy or back, He also has a diaper rash which is really unsual for him. So I gave him a bath thinking maybe he got into something. Well I think some of the spots went away but most didn't. Well they are like little raised pimples. Really weird. So I thought maybe I would post some pics and see what some of you thought seeing as it has been well over 24 hours and they are still there, and I think more have showed up as well. Cause I don't remember them being on his thighs yesterday and they are there now. So here are some pics to look at.

that is of the ones on his elbow.

and here is the one of his thigh.

So tell me what you think. They itch him some as I have seen him scratching. He didn't sleep well at all last night, whined and cried all night. He had a real low grade fever when we went to bed but none since. it was about 99.5 so real low.

I am just baffeled by this. I will contact his doc if he spikes a fever or acts sick, but at this point I don't think it is nessacary to see that butthead. I have my hopes for what it is but I really don't think it is.

So.....

Its really hard to tell from the pics but could it be chicken pox? The symptoms all sound the same.

Did he come in contact with peanuts? That is how my son broke out and then we found out he was allergic to them...

my son has been eating Peanuts, and peanut butter since he was like a year old. So I don't think it is a peanut allergy.

As for the chicken Pox I hope it is. I want them to get them naturally instead of the Vax, so this would be a great thing as I am having trouble finding Chicken Pox parties around where I live. He still has the rash and just fell asleep, so we will see come tomorrow. It they start to pop and crust then that would be a perfect sign of Chicken Pox. Hopefully my daughter will get them as well. But I will have to let you all know as I see more adn more.

I get mildly itchy slightly painful bumps like that when I chafe. Somewhat doubt that it's the same thing but I thought I'd offer it anyways. They go away in a day or so.

It could be several things. Derm is always tough, especially by internet.

But yeah, especially if he's spiking any temperature, I'd take him to a doc. Maybe try to find a non-butthead?

It could be several of any benign conditions, including a couple of benign viruses. It could be a herpes/varicella-related thing like chicken pox. If he hasn't been exposed to anyone with chicken pox, that's pretty unlikely.

Also, the vaccine is supposed to be pretty damn good. I sure wish it were around before I hit 3rd grade. Not fun.

All my kids were vacinated and 2 of them got doctor confirmed chicken pox 3 times the other one only twice. The doctor told me it is because the virus is changing and becoming almost immune to the vaccine. It wasnt until they each got it the last time that they got it really bad and I think thats why the wont get it again now. That wasnt fun.

Well I spoke to the Ped this morning, he dosen't want to see him, unless I really want to (which I don't) He said to get him started on some benedryl for the itching. They really aren't concerned as the fever was for a sfort time on Saturday night, and he is just slightly whiny now. They want me to wait about 2 days and if it is still there bring him in. Unless he spikes a fever, or acts really uncomfortable. So that is the story at this time.

He does have more bumps as of this morning on his legs, still no change in the first bumps. Hopefully he will start to feel better with some benedryl in him to make it more comfortable, who knows maybe it will clear up.

The Ped says he does not think it is chicken pox which is surprising as he likes to give me crap about not vaxing for it. So he didn't have much to say other than it doesn't sound like chicken pox.

This is a weird question but have you switched laundry or bathsoap lately? Try a baking soda and water bath to see if the bumps clear up...

Ah. I need to brush up on my peds info. At one time it was considered a damn good vaccine. I'm sure the virus is changing, so hopefully the vaccine will change as needed. Especially if it reduces the threat of infection with a virus that can re-activate as an adult with much more than just itchiness.

Also, Chicken Pox's tend to form in warm areas....under the arm pit, behind the knees, under the neck, in the diaper area and the top of his head ( if he has a lot of hair) keep and eye on it and he may not want to be next to others just in case. You should know more for sure tomorrow. Good Luck!

I was thinking the same thing along with lotions, cleaners (that might leave a residue), or even something that you put on occasionally like a perfume?

Not that I think this is what he has, but allergies, especially food ones, can literally happen overnight. Something in the immune system changes, and what didn't used to bother you becomes a problem. Especially in kids.

Having said that, when it does happen, the reaction is usually pretty severe, not just a skin reaction. But rashes are pretty normal, and could just be a reaction to the fever. Also, I second obby's call for a baking soda bath, which can help a LOT, or getting some Aveno oatmeal bath, which also works well.

<---------man of a thousand allergies and rashes.

He is getting 2 plain water baths a day and then he gets his butt soaked in baking soda bath since he has a diaper rash. I will add the baking soda to his bath next time and see if it helps.

I am still using the same laundry detergent and soap that I have been using for months on him and me. I never wear perfume since I started breastfeeding 3 1/2 years ago. don't even own any now.

I do come from a family with lots of allergies, mostly pollen, but my grandmother is allergic to cold. She breaks out in hives and they stay for a couple of hours but go away pretty quick.

I just don't know what this is. There is no change in the appearence of bumps, they just keep multiplying.

Yeah I know and it is weird not one spot under the arms behind the knees, or in his hair. Nor any at all on his torso. I am just baffeled.

It does suck that he has to go see the doc next week for a check up as I skipped 2 appointments, so we have to play catch up. I might see if we can streatch the vaxs out to one at a time, and just go in everyother month or so. IJ just hate to have him stuck 3 times at one visit. and it means a fight with the ped over weather or not he is getting the chickenpox vax. There is a 40% chance of getting it with the vax so why waste my money on something that doesn't work and I don't believe in.

The only thing he hadn't had recently was a new brand of popcorn Saturday morning. everything else from Friday night and Saturday morning was all things he eats at least 3-4 times a week, so I would think those would be okay. as I thought food allergies tended to kick in when you went a little while without eating that item. But since no one in my family has food allergies, I really don't know what I am talking about.

well I will check back later and let you know if anything has changed.

any pets??? fleas?? sounds like its hitting any relatively exposed areas...it does sound like some sort of allergy - little ones will have a low grade fever sometimes with an allergic reaction. chicken pox would be puss-y. when he would scratch there would be broken skin and puss from the bump.

could be peanuts - they are a very common food allergy, some pediatricians won't let kids have them until they are 2.

my $.02

I was gonna say benedryl, it's sounds like a allergic reaction to something.. If you started him on the benedryl and it doesn't go away by tomorrow I would go see the DR. Good luck. I'm sure he's fine.

Heh...for future reference, you can say the same thing with the world "purulent" as opposed to the word describing obviously at least three different things.
