shoes
Is it just me or do other women also invest in a really nice pair of shoes - even though it can be pricey?
I am in love with shoes by Tayrn Rose - mcs succumbed and got it for me for the wedding.. it was $400 something. BUT in my defense I still wear it after the wedding and it is the MOST comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn and now I am looking at getting more shoes by her. Any other ladies/women out there that does the same? What brands do you like and can say it lasts for a long time and worth every penny? BTW - anyone know a good discount place where I can buy Taryn Rose shoes?

can't help you there. i bought new converse hi-tops for my wedding
i feel guilty when i spend more than $30 on shoes. my most expensive shoes are my columbia snow boots ($99) and a really cool pair of skechers hi-tops with dragons embroidered on em... some fool got me a $100 victoria's secret gift certificate while i was all knocked up, so i blew 3/4 of it on shoes... and still felt guilty for owning a $72 pair of shoes i'm really appreciating them now, because you don't actually have to do up the laces on the front; they also have a side zipper. which is handy now that i can't bend over very well, or stand on one foot at all.

I'm not much of a shoe shopper, in fact, my feet are much happier when naked. My coworkers tease me because I keep a pair of fuzzy slippers under my desk.

I prefer not wearing shoes at all - but since I can't wear sneakers to work and such I need to find decent shoes that I can stand 8 hours in - if I work p/t retail again and use the same pair when I work at my desk job. I hate spending money on shoes that I might wear once - but because it hurts my feet I would have to toss them out. That's a waste too I think.

Oh I love shoes. The only problem is that my feet at the moment don't. So I haven't been buying any cute new ones. The only shoes that I have bought recently are Asics because they are comfy on my feet. Not especially fashionable though.

I will not spned more than $15 on a pair of shoes, and most of the time that pair will last me a year or so. I can't justify spending that kind of money on myself. I won't even buy jeans that are more than $20. If it ain't on a really good sale or CLearence I won't touch it. as for shoes I mostly wear Denise Austin, or Avia, as they are really good for the price. for dress shoes I am still wearing the same pairs I have had for 5 years.

I will spend on good tennis shoes if I have to. Asics are what I have now, but I do shop for good deals and buy what I like as long as it's under $50. I love the BX because of their clearance on shoes! I can normally get great shoes at 75% off
As for dress shoes, I stay at home right now so mine are pretty much collecting dust. When I worked in my cubical "office setting" job, I would buy shoes the same way 50-75% off and they were nice name brand shoes. Not high dollar -- maybe$80-100 tops for their original price. I bought (and still buy) classic looks that will last for a couple seasons so I don't have to buy something new when I do get to go out and dress up. ![]() |

)I'm sure that you can find the same comfort and quality in a less pricey pair (albiet without the "pedigree name" attached to it) of shoes. Paying that much for shoes is ridiculous... hell, my whole shoe collection probably isn't worth that much (I only wear about 7 pairs of shoes (sneakers and dress shoes)... and I usually wait until they go on sale or are so torn up that they MUST be replaced before I buy new ones. )

Wow. $400. Wow. I think the shoes I have on now cost $80, and they've seen about 3 years of 200 days/year use.

There's only a few places in life where I'm not cheap: Shoes and Sleep. I'm sure there are a couple more but I can't think of them. Shoes for prolonged back life and sleep because I'm there like 1/3 of my life.

I guess I should say that I looked for over 1.5 years for the perfect pair of shoes for the wedding - from cheap ones to Jimmy Choos/Stuart Weitzman and not one of them was comfortable for me. I found the Taryn Rose shoes in Vegas the day before we left - pure accident and they were more comfortable than flat ballerina shoes or sneakers - I was floored by the comfort and even more so by the price - but it truly was the best shoes I have ever owned. I can't say that I can justify paying high ridiculous amounts for a pair of shoes - but if I have to choose paying for a pair I know I would wear for a looooong time versus buying a different pair every season I would do it. Reason being is - I have as much of a hard time finding comfortable shoes as I do finding a good bra.
I do have a question for the ladies/women - what brands of shoes have you found to be really comfortable that you can recommend? I need to buy a pair of closed toe shoes - suitable for an office/going out/multi purpose use. I would like to get them in black - a must have color. Oh and just so you all know - Taryn Rose is a pediatrist that started making her own shoes cause all the comfortable shoes generally are not cute or pretty to wear. Her shoes has a lot of arch support and cushion - great for fairly flat feet women like me. Last edited by angl2b : 10-27-2006 at 05:10 PM. |

I agree - although I do feel a bit bad about it at times - takes me a while before I grit and bear it and just purchase it..I try not to feel bad later - even my wedding shoes (I still wear btw) - I had to try it on again after I brought it back home in MD a few weeks and even a few days before the wedding to remind myself why I had mcs splurge on it for me. But you really do get what you pay for - the material on purses and shoes just seem to be better quality and it lasts longer it seems. Or is that just me? |

try zappos to find good shoe deals: <a href="http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722091247/page/1.html">http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722091247/page/1.html</a>
Personally, I can't bring myself to spend a ton of money on shoes, but I am growing to appreciate the pricier shoes. I usually go to DSW and find some nice deals in the clearance section, and get a pair of shoes that normally goes for 100 bucks for 20. Shoe shopping is hard - sometimes you don't realize the shoes aren't as comfy as you thought until it's 2am on the dance floor and you're limping in pain. And at that point, you can't return them (hence my hesitance in blowing a ton of money on shoes). Regarding purses - I like them cheap. I get bored easily with purses, so I figure that I'd rather spend less so I can get more. I rarely wear out a purse!

it takes me forever to find a pair of shoes - sometimes if i am lucky I will find it on one try - generally speaking it can take me up to a year just to find the right pair. I have a few pairs that just can't even last me through an 8 hour day - regardless if it is a name brand or not. Just like buying brbas - once I find one good company I stick with it. I have tried other companies just as pricey as Taryn Rose - like Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman - but the lasting comfort just isn't there.
You are right though - you never know how good a pair of shoes is until you can't return it. As for purses - I don't like a lot of purses - just classic looking ones I think I will use forever - and even then I feel bad spending so much just for a purse. But there are benefits in having one really good purse. ![]() |

Gotta agree with you there. Nice Serta pillowtop, and a few nice pairs of shoes. I tend to like Ecco, though they are expensive. They do hold up rather well, are very comfortable, and often have gor-tex liners. Great for hiking, bumming around Europe or other vacations, whatever. I mainly have to find shoes that have narrow heels and wide feet to accommodate my ducklike bigass feet. I do have a friend that owns like 50 pairs of Mephistos. Supposedly they are da $h!T! |

If my wife spent $400.00 for a pair of shoes I think they have to be ordered by her doctor and paid for by our heath insurance company. She will drop $75 for a pair of tennis shoes for work, but she is on her feet for 12 plus hours as a nurse in the hospital. We know people do spend that and more for shoes but not in this house!

haha, you think $400 is steep?
you should check out the price tags on the shoes at my work... lets say $400 is a sale price.. the nice shoes start at $600 and up... boots? um think around a grand. Oh, and i cant really work in heels either, but the Marc by Marc Jacobs line makes some great shoes that are comfortable...plus, not as expensive.

Yeah, I can't feel the pricey shoes. Me? Cheap and easy shoes that work. The way I figure it, any shoe I buy is gonna take a crazy pounding and is gonna wear out sooner rather than later. Let's live it up when we can.
To that end, me likey WL's shoe policy. Yay for getting the cheap and easies.

I agree about having expensive quality shoes for when you have to stand, walk, etc., a lot during the day. Makes a big difference. And you can get some really nice looking ones that happen to be extremely light and supported, even for a duck-footed inverting flat-foot like me. Then again, once I find one that fits my heel, my toes are cramped. Damn 13s.

I spend more on my running shoes than my every day shoes - I'll be OK to drop $75 or so on a pair of Asics for running, but for everything else, bargainoutfitters.com has been good to me!

In comparison, spending $1200 - $1500 on a set of wheels for a vehicle is comparable to spending $125 on a pair of Jordans. These are STILL not the same as $400 for a pair of shoes. To compare $400 dollar shoes to wheels for a car, then we would be talking wheels that are priced about about $2500 each and up. (and yes, they do make wheels like that...) Paying $10,000 for a set is just as crazy to me as paying $400 for shoes, but then again I personally can't afford them. The people who can buy stuff like that usually have way more disposable income than I do... We know it is mostly for "style"... but hey we each do determine our own value in things. You shopping at Sears paying $65 to $100 on wheels (rims) for your car is the car equivalent of you shopping at Payless shoes buying $15 sneakers or dress shoes for your feet which is no comparision to this discussion. (BTW... there is nothing wrong with wearing Payless Shoes... if that is what you want to buy with your funds.) ![]() There is a big difference between in just being "cheap" and paying a reasonable price for the value of what you get versus paying an extravagant amount for something. In any case, we all decide for ourselves where those lines are drawn. Last edited by DarkFury : 10-31-2006 at 07:43 AM. |

I don't really see a problem with $400 shoes, especially if you're going to wear them often. Shoes make the outfit dude!

I cringe everytime I think about the amount mcs paid for the shoes - but when I think of all the shoes I have been tossing out cause I can't wear them for one reason or another - the quantity of shoes I have tossed out compared to the one quality shoes I am keeping adds up to be about the same. I am just tired of wasting mcs's or my money on shoes that I end up tossing by the end of the season or within a few weeks. The life span is no more than a half a year it seems - cause I wear it daily and they just don't last. Sneakers is a different story - I don't wear it often enough and one pair can last me a few years before I buy new ones.
But each person is different in what they want to spend money on - whether its shoes/clothes/card/electronics/etc. I don't like wasting money on things and if I were tossing out 400$ shoes like the others then I am just foolish. I have to admit I do feel like it is way too much for shoes - but if it prevents me from buying a lot of shoes and discomfort then in the long run its worth it I think. |

I totally agree with you... as long as you get $400 worth of "wear" out of the shoes. Honestly, with shoes like that, it would be nice if they came with a warranty that said "If you wear these shoes out in the next 10 years... we will replace them for free" or something like that (of course the details of "wear them out" would have to be spelled out to prevent abuse of the warranty... such as self inflicted mutilation and whatnot.) Now THAT would be a total deal! |
