Would you buy brand new stolen goods

Let's say you know someone and they offer you a TV at half off the list store shelf price ----- or a lawn mower at half price. And you know these are coming from stores-and he takes orders! Would you buy them?

It really all depends on the friend and the goods. In the situation you describe, I would have to say no simply because it seems as if he's going to get caught really quickly and someone who takes orders may cause a big enough investigation that may eventually lead to you.

If I didn't think that they were stolen - yes. If I even thought they were stolen, which in this case I knew they are stolen, NO!!!

Also, if the person was just some Joe-schmo I would probably report them to the coppers.

Nah. I'd prefer not to support theft. If I didn't know, then maybe, as sometimes people end up with stuff. I have a friend who buys (by auction...usually $5-50) storage units that are closed b/c people haven't paid their fees in several months. The catch is that you have to move everything out. He's ended up with some pretty nice stuff from time to time. I haven't bought anything from him, but it really wouldn't be stolen.

Vista for $10, a month or two before the official release? Sure.

To all those voting "no": did you consider the illegal copies of music, software, etc. that I bet most of you have acquired from and/or shared with friends? Intellectual property does indeed fall under the legal definition of "goods".

I vote "No" .. I'd rather not know the item is stolen. Although usually I have a good idea on things. But I have bought DVD Box Sets from a "Used" store that I almost know for a fact are probably stolen. But I don't know for sure, and it's not really my problem.

Sticking to the original question though- if I knew certain items were being stolen by a store employee in order to be sold, I'd have to say 'no'. Unless the store had ripped me off in some way and this was the only way of setting things straight IMO.

Depends on whether I wanted the product or not. I'm trying not to buy things that are good deals purely because they are good deals.

Cool to buy or not to buy

Well,if I had a friend that was a thief & they already had the item sure I'd get it off of them they probably really need the $$ or the wouldn't be stealing. I'd have a talk w/ them about a legal way to get the things they need but, sure give a friend in need a hand & get merchandise seems like a good deal to me as long as I was the only person who had been made the offer b/c everybody knows the only way to get away w/ something is to keep it to yourself.

Hell, half of the "brand new" stuff on eBay is probably formerly stolen property.

No, I would not buy goods that I knew were stolen. Besides, I don't have the kinds of friends who would try to sell me stolen stuff.

However, I won't refuse to buy something simply because there's a possibility it might be stolen. I buy lots of stuff on eBay and at pawn shops.

Oh come on, how many of you buy things from woot? It's the only way they can ship a 60" tv for $5.00.

Seriously though, it depends on the situation and how well I knew the person.

This smells like a setup.

If I knew it was stolen: probably not. But I ain't asking any questions, if you know what I mean.

I don't know the guy well. He bought a truck off me some years back and is a local in the area. I'm good friends with some local cops and work on their homes all the time. Guess what I did? I turned his butt in. This guy has a shoplifting wrap sheet an arm long-it won't be long till he has a warm house to stay in and 3 square meals a day. I gave the information to 2 of my friends. The head of detectives is an a-hole and I didn't want to be used or asked to be use as a decoy. So I did it in kind of a backdoor reporting. Even the guys who are my friends said this was a better idea to do it the way I did it.

This guy years ago offered to get me a Wells Fargo work trailer for like a couple of hundred dollars. These go for $2500 and up. At that time I told the head detective of the local police department and he didn't want to bother at that time because the trailer shop was in a different city next to mine. And he was too lazy to do the report.

Yeah no way. I once bought what I thought could have been a stollen CD player. (I didn't ask where it came from, I didn't ask for a reciept, no harness, hacked off wires) and it ended up getting stolen from me so I absolutely belive that if I don't ask questions, it Karma will find a way.
