How old were you when you got your first job!
How old were you when you got your first real paying job that you had to punch a time clock?
I know for me I was 14 years old working for a wholesale/retail jewelry and pots and pan dist. I was rich made $1.60 per hour.

I delivered newspapers by bike when I was in 7th grade. But there was no time clock so I guess it doesn't count. I just got paid by the number of papers I delivered. It sucked cause it was a very obscure paper to which not many people subscribed. I rode twice the distance of other boys to deliver less than half the number of issues.

babysitting since I was 13, but I started my first real job at 15 at our city library. To this day, I still shudder when I see carts of books waiting to be put away!

My first job was selling milk at the cafeteria window in elementary school when I was 9 yrs old.
Got my ss# then so I could get paid through the school district. It was a trip to get a real paycheck, just like the teachers and lunch ladies! Don't remember what the pay was, but I know it was a little over minimum wage. That beat the heck out of newspaper delivery, mowing lawns, babysitting, etc. Plus, I got to work during school hours. Woo hoo! |

My first real job that was not forced labor was at 18 almost 19 years old. I worked for hallmark. I made $7 and hour.
proior to that I worked for my stepdad in his verizon wireless store tduring the school year I worked Saturdays and during the summer I worked 6 days a week 70 hours a week and only got paid for the deals I closed. I made about $125 a month during the summer and it was cash under teh table. I didn't have a choice I had to work there from the time I was 16 and it was so my stepdad could go golfng or screwing other women. I don't plan to make my kids work. They will have the oportunity to make money at home. They will have set chores that are non paid and then there will be extra chores for money. If they want to buy something they can save up by doing the extra chorres, and even if they chose to get a job they still have to do their regular chores. I also believe school to be a job in and of itself. They may not make an actual paycheck but if they want to go to the movies I will give them the money as long as the grades are good. This worked well for me, growing up.

My first job was when I was about 5-7 (too young to really remember), my mom worked part time for an office firm, and we helped do the mailing of stuff. Fold the paper, stuff it into an envelope, label it with the address labels, and stamp it. We had a big automatic stamper, and so that's what I would do. Hold it up high and each time they gave me an envelope, I'd slam it down and get the stamp on there. It was cool because her boss would split our paycheck 3 ways (with my older brother too) and my parents put the money into a savings account with our names on it. Made quite a bit, thousands, never spent any. Obviously, I think we got more share of that paycheck then we deserved, haha. Probably spent an hour a week or something really tiny like that.

I think I was 13 when I started working at my Uncle's marina. Mow the lawns, stock shelves in the store, etc, but what I really liked was working on the gas dock where I could see the occasional bikini-clad hottie come in for a fill-up.

15. I did yardwork for an old man who I came to realize was a bit homosexual and promptly quit when he started to creep me out. He did pay well though and often encouraged me to take off my shirt when I got sweaty.

15, Appraisal Assistant. I worked in a little office so small that my boss had to leave when my shift started because we both didn't fit in there.
It was cool because I learned a lot of things about what adds value to a home. Did you know that if the street you live on has divider lines, it decreases the value of your home?
