lets see where members like to vacation. we'll list them this way so it may help others when they try to plan a getaway.
------------------------------------------------------------- Local - your home that night in your own bed. (Frankenmuth, Michigan) Overnighter - longer then just a days travel by car and back home. (Picture Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan) 3 days or longer but less then 8 days normal staying. (Disney Orlando, Florida or Clearwater, Florida area) 2 weeks if you had the $$$$ to do it again! (Kauai, Hawaii)

Wildwood NJ! (alot of fun if you love the smells and sounds of the boardwalk)..(not Wildwood Crest-that's for the retiree's)
Gettysburg PA (you must be a history lover to really "enjoy" this area..there are other attractions but mostly historical) Lancaster PA (love the Amish, Love to Eat, and Love Quilts? You'll Love the beautiful scenery and produce and foods here..also a Thomas The Train Museum and alot of Antique Barns 3 miles from Lancaster..also has haunted walking tours!) Manassass Virginia (go to see the civil war trenches at night and get the crap scared outta ya-it's wild) Ithaca NY (go visit the Cornell Campus, head to Buttermilk falls or visit the Commons downtown for some shopping..bored of that-get yourself on the NY Winery Tour and have a taste of some of the finest Vino in the country) Keuka NY (THIS IS WINE COUNTRY...by the time you go to every winery for a tour you'll be smashed-also, rent a boat and take it out on Keuka Lake-it's beautiful (but hopefully not when you're still smashed!) just a few of my own opinionized personal favorites! |

I did get a chance to have a little mini-vacation this past week, tho. A few friends and I rented a beach house just north of Rosarito in Mexico. We spent the days lounging and playing football on the beach, swimming in the ocean, eating lobster in Puerto Nuevo, having some drinks in Rosarito... One of the most relaxing times I've ever had, so that would be my contribution to this thread: Rosarito/Puerto Nuevo, Mexico with a small group of friends.

Local - NYC, can't beat it. Spent the past weekend in the village/east side and had a blast.
Short Stay - Lake Tahoe, amazingly beautiful and good skiing. Longer - Greek Islands. You can choose from big party to small and remote. |

I don't remember the name of the restaurant where we actually ate, but they were all pretty much offering the same thing. We went to the same spot two days in a row because we got chummy with our waiter, and I think between the four of us, we had around 20 lobsters. Our waiter then also directed us to a seafood market area right next to the Fox Studios down there, and we bought 8 crabs for $2.50 apiece, took them back to our place and boiled them up for dinner. The line heading back WAS a pain in the ass, but it took us only a little over an hour and a half, so we considered it worth the trouble, since we had such a great 3 days there. |

Here are my contributions:
Local - up to Niagara Falls to see the obvious sights or for a hike in the Niagara Gorge or to cross the border to visit the big park and butterfly conservatory that're on the Canadian side. Niagara Falls, NY is a dump of a city though, I wish it wasn't such a sh|thole. Letchworth State Park is a great day trip too: beautiful river and waterfalls and scenery, especially with fall foliage. Or a day at the Botanical Gardens and Basilica in Lackawanna (South Buffalo), or the Albright-Knox art gallery (also in Buffalo) if they have a special exhibit. Overnighter - maybe out to Geneva, NY to visit my brother and do some of the Finger Lakes wine trail... gotta agree with Obby, it's a TON of fun to get tipsy one swig at a time on a few dozen different wines. The wineries are really hit-or-miss IMO... some are fantastic and some really suck and some are in the middle, but that's part of the fun. And it's a lot cheaper than you'd expect- usually get to try 5-10 wines at each winery for a $1 or $2 tasting fee. How else can you get fall-down drunk on a huge variety of quality stuff for ~$10?! 3-8 days - up to the Adirondacks to climb some mountains. 2 weeks + - I've never been on a trip that long. I gotta imagine I could spend 2 weeks in Europe and would want to do it again.
