I have home security but my alarms are furry and cuddly to us. No one else would dare come in with three very verbal dogs letting you know they are just waiting for you to try and open that door.

One question I would ask... "Does the equipment become mine at the end of the contract term or does it become 'rental'"?

If it becomes yours permanently, then yeah... it's an ok deal. (You can use that as a selling point ... "built in Security system", if you should ever sell your house.)

As far as the price, about $30 per month is the general going rate. One thing though... are they gonna tack on another $5 to $10 for the "maintenance plan"? ADT does this with me, and so far I've never even utilized it in the 10 years I've had the home. The 2 times I've needed something like that were when the siren battery died and even then they wanted to charge me like $25 for a trip fee plus the cost of the battery... so I ended up doing it myself.

Also... how many sensors does your "free install" include? Do you get all the motion, door, and windows you need... or are they gonna make you pay extra for sensors above the standard package (usually they'll offer you 2 motion, 2 doors, and possibly a patio door sensor for free... the others are "negotiable").

I got the same offer 3 years ago when I still worked for Honeywell. I was trying to take advantage of the company perks!
They tried to skimp on the sensors. One sensor per door and two motion sensors for the rest of the house.
I thought Honeywell was out of the security system business?

I have my fierce dogs that protect my house..they may be friendly as hell if you are familiar to them but be a stranger and you better have balls of iron.

I don't have a service, but I have visible cameras around the property. People don't hardly ever seem to notice them though. The cameras feed a recorder that is customizeable with motion sensing capabilities. It is quirky, but I still like it. It's not what you're looking for. If I'm away and someone breaks in and steals the recorder I'm SOL. If I'm home asleep and someone breaks in there's no alarm (though the recorder does have that option). Still, it is pretty cool. The recorder feeds one of my 2 monitors, and when I hear the motion sensor go off I can switch over to the RCA inputs and see all 4 cameras at once. I haven't caught any high crimes or anything, but I've caught 2 different kids on different days breaking bottles in the street in front of my house. What is it with these punks nowadays? In both cases I chased after them, gave them a good tongue lashing and made them come back. I then retrieved a broom and dust pan from my shed and made them clean it up. Both punks tried to lie about it, but I know better because I saw them.

I've got motion-activated lights and wired/wireless video cameras in certain areas now. The reason for that is my car was broken into overnight a couple weeks ago but they didn't take it damnit - I'd be happy to be rid of my wife's oil-burning everything rattles 80k miles Saturn.

After the lights and stuff, it's the Mossberg 500, Remington 11/87, Ruger 10/22 and mini-14.

Oh, and did I mention the attack wienerdog that sounds like something 10x its size? Most people get nervous when they knock on the door and hear my wienerdog's loud, low bark.

DF - If you had a 2' long wiener, wouldn't you want to whip it out any chance you get?
