My weinerdog generally sleeps in the office or in the living room in a designated area under a blanket. For anyone who has ever had a dachshund, you'll know they love to bury themselves under a blanket.

Here's an example of a "nest o' Weiners" (aka a Sausagefest) courtesy of the weinercam at http://www.weinerdogs.com :

My girlie has always slept in the bed. Lately though she has been sleeping on the couch where I leave a light on for her. Her eyesight is failing and she has fallen off in her old age.

If I knew how to post a picture I would, she is so cute.

I guess we are the only ones that crate?

Gracie, our Min Schnauzer, will get into trash, laundry, food and tissues and leave me a mess in the morning. For her safety, we crate her. Before we had to crate her, the little bugger would sleep next to me in bed or with Audrey.

And Angel, who never had those habits prior to Gracie joining us, is also crated because she picked them up. BUT she sleeps on the floor next to the bed if she isn't crated at night.

Last July, we lost my Lucy Lu. She used to sun herself in the back yard on the patio and would never leave it. She was a scaredy cat in the fullest meaning. One day, she was gone. We want to believe some kid saw her and took her home, but we fear a coyote got to her. We get them often here on base. She slept curled up with Donnie and if we went to bed without her, she would "mew-mew-mew" until Donnie would call to her.

In December, we saw WonderCat in a rescue at Petsmart. We were heading out of town and walked away. BUT when we went back in January, she was still there! So, by day, she goes by "Cricket", the name she was given by the rescue, but at night, she is "Wonderkitty!" She is young and frisky. But when she does sleep, it either with me, Audrey or Patrick. She loves Patrick and that is about the only time she can cuddle with him- and she is a cuddler.

We used the crate when we were housebreaking Otto (our Schnoodle), but after he was trained we just use the bottom half of the crate for his "bed" next to our bed. He will usually come up and lie on our bed until we tell him to get into his own bed.

Crate here too. Probably keep it that way at least until he's 3. Frankly, he doesn't mind it at all. He crawls in there sometimes with the door open.

You're not the only ones, as my parents also crate their weiners at night. I am fortunate that I can trust my weiner not to get into trouble when we're asleep, as they like to sleep under the blankets for a long time. If you feed them in the morning, they're great alarm clocks as they will wake up like clockwork, run into your bedroom and try to wake you up with the ol' nose-in-the-face (dachshunds are deceptively short, and full-size ones can easily reach the tops of beds when standing on their hind legs).

Oh, just for the record I am not affiliated with the weinerdogs.com website and those aren't my weiners pictured. I live in Northern Kah-LEE-fornia (as our Governator says it), enjoying our sunny and 70-degree spring days and not in the frozen wastes of Maine or the rest of new england.

That explains alot. My Dach/Lab cross always does that and I really didnt know it was a trait they had. As for where my dogs sleep, all 3 sleep either in my bed, beside it or under it...wherever they want to basically. I was hoping the two border collies would sleep with their boys but they followed my lil babyroo and sleep in my room. I also have 2 cats who sleep where ever they feel like sleeping.

We have a mutt that I suspect is part dachshund, and he LOVES sleeping under the covers. At first it was cute, but he takes up a lot of room so he got the boot. Now he sleeps in one of these at the foot of the bed & seems to like it quite a bit:

My boy sleeps in his crate in our room. His crate faces our bed. Usually he hops in bed with us for a bit, but eventually finds his way to his bed before we fall asleep.
