spouse and friends question

any one else have a spouse like this .
my wife seems and always has been like this.
most the time when i have guests stop in. she hides in a bedroom unless she has met them before. i do a lot of work out of the house and i do have clients stopping by a lot. just thought i ask. funny question to ask after 28 years of being marryed it seems .

I have no spouse, reno, but it doesn't seem so odd to me, My sisters ex-husband used to hide in his room whenever I or any of the other family members came to visit. And if my sis needed us to go into the room, he would jump out the window.

Now that's weird.

I absolute DESPISE unexpected company..I figure, if you want me to show you any decency when you want to come over at least call first so I can make some food first..I hate being caught off guard..especially when I have things to do and you come over and just want to sit and "visit"while I have floors to wax or curtains to iron. I can honestly say..drop-in's drive me wild. All of my friends know enough to call ahead to make sure I'm not busy..family I don't care about-they usually pitch in and help as long as I give them coffee and a cookie

As far as your friend goes..maybe the wife doesn't think her home is clean enough, or fancy enough for "company"..I know alot of people like that. I for one always spot a missed cobweb or fingerprint that I just know the company will "talk" about as soon as they leave the house..OK OK I'm a bit obsessive..sue me.

Well, if it's a client that's visiting, I would probably duck out of the way too, to give some privacy. if it's just some friends, then I'd probably come out and meet them first, and then disappear. After all, they're there to see my husband, not me. so yeah, I vote for not-weird.

My Granny was this way according to my mom. It was "her place" to be out of site until needed to serve drinks etc. My mom was/is this way to a point. So am I.

I figure, if it's a business type thing, I am not involved, it would be rude for me to listen into the business. If it's friends, it depends - if they are talking shop sometimes I am included, sometimes I am not. Most of the time, I am.

I rather agree with the thought pattern of Avlena. Or you could just ask your wife why she hides. Maybe she is really shy or feels she won't have anything to contribute to the conversation. Next time you could go get her and say "hey, Hon,come meet my friend so and so or my client so and so before you run away!"

And congratulations on your marriage. 28 years is a long time. Just ask her what's up. She will tell you or she won't so you got a 50/50 chance of finding out first hand and not having to guess any longer.

Without a doubt. Friends stopping by is a treat. I personally don't mind unexpected visitors. Some people do, I am just not one of them.

well, if it doesn't upset you, you should ask just to find out of curiosity. maybe your wife has been doing this out of respect & courtesy all this time, and you haven't been fully appreciating it! or maybe the reason is more interesting. after all, you're asking for answers from online strangers, when her explanation is the one you really want.

If my wife has a friend over, I will politely greet them, then leave to busy myself with other things. I won't hide, but I won't sit in on their conversation.

I have two cats and they do the EXACT SAME THING!! Don't worry, she will become friendlier and adjust over time. Just be patient, it is nothing to worry about.
