Cell Phones More Dangerous Than Cigarettes and Asbestos
A top Australian neurosurgeon says cell phones may cause more cancer in the near future than smoking or asbestos. Dr. Vini Khurana, who conducted an extensive review of the link between cell phones and brain cancer said using cell phones for at least ten years could more than double the risk of developing deadly brain cancer. Since three times as many people use cell phones as smoke, cell phones will soon emerge as a major killer.
“It is anticipated that this danger has far broader public health ramifications than asbestos and smoking, and directly concerns all of us, particularly the younger generation, including very young children,” Dr. Khurana wrote. Dr. Khurana says there has been an increase in brain tumors in people who have used cell phones heavily for a long time on the same side of the head as their “preferred ear” for making calls. He believes it has been difficult to prove a direct link between cell phone usage and brain tumors because a malignant brain tumor might take between ten and twenty years to develop, and the general public hasn’t been using cell phones long enough to effectively study the risk. That will soon change. “In the years 2008-2012, we will have reached the appropriate length of follow-up time to being to definitely observe the impact of this global technology on brain tumor incidence rates,” Khurana says. from email sent to me from Newsmax.com |

I noticed that I started forgetting everything in my short term memory, hope I don't have brain cancer.
On the plus side, I started using a wired phone headset. So I think think there is nearly as much danger, except maybe testicular, since it sits in my pocket now and not on my head. Although I still don't know if I believe that it will give a large increase to brain cancer. But maybe. |

The signals of cell phones have changed so many times over the past 10 years alone, that even then the study won't be conclusive. There is so little understanding on the causes of brain cancer, that doctors like this will grasp at any straws to make a name for themselves. I can tell you this. Of all the people my parents have come across since my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer, none of them have said, "I was on my cell phone too much." Something else to consider. This is an australian doctor. Many aussies have to come to the US, to Duke, for brain cancer help because there just isn't enough overseas. The same for Japan. Brain cancer survival rates are much worse outside the US. Look for scientists from Duke to start making these claims, then I'll be concerned. The rest of the scientific community just doesn't seem to have a clue about the disease since I've been watching it.

I've often wondered about schwannomas (nerve tumors behind the ear in the head..benign, but still you don't want to get one) as a result of holding a broadcasting radio against my skull everyday, but yeah, the data really isn't there. And I can't imagine Bluetooth headsets or the like being much safer anyway. This is something that we won't have an answer for for many, many years. And, yeah, modern cell phones aren't nearly as "hot" as the older analog ones.

Yeah, if you really want to be safe and/or paranoid, wired or speakerphone would be the way to go. H <---aggravated because his top-o-da-line Treo has a stuck "p" key. He has to hit "p" before turning the phone on or off, can't type emails or sms messages b/c "p" pops up, or "ppppppp" etc. If he goes to "contacts," it automatically scrolls to the first person starting with "p." But Sprint stores take freakin' forever to even look at the phone before trying to repair it (yeah, I can see that happening) or replace it in 3 days. I wish I had more time...or someone at Sprint, perhaps Retentions (whom I've been calling a lot as of late b/c they keep screwing up my plan...nifty trick, if you want something done and want a competent person on the phone, when you call customer support and get the automated system, just say cancel. Your wait time will be about 30 seconds max) can help me get a new phone. I've even missed calls because of this, or haven't been able to turn my phone on for a minute or two...this is very bad when I'm at work or away from the hospital. |
