Mother's in the hospital, need some help

The breakdown of the past 11 days.

My mother has had pain in her upper right leg for approximately 1 year. About 1 and 1/2 months ago, she started getting severe pain in her left leg (not muscle pain, but nerve pain). She went to SoundShore for an epidural (back injection). It did not work. 5 days later my mother was completely incapacitated. She went to the emergency room at soundshore where she was admitted. The neurologist did a preliminary diagnosis on her and said that "nothing outside of back surgery is going to help you". 6 days later, The same neurologist sent a Physical Therapist to her. She refused PT treatment (too painful). 2 days later, that same neurologist came back and refused to treat her and also refused to perform the surgical procedure she needed (she has a narrowing of the spinal column at L5).

We took her out of Soundshore and put her into the montefiore system, formerly Our Lady of Mercy. She has been there for about 3 days. The doctors believe that the pain is muscular (we know it is not). She has had 3 MRI's done, and 1 X-ray. Soundshore never sent the MRI films or the X-Ray to Monte, and only sent the first MRI report done.

She has gone through physical therapy previously, it has not worked.

She has gone through pain management, that has not worked.

The hospital put her on 8 days straight of Morphine, that has not worked.

Currently her doctor (Her Rumatologist for 10 years) that sees her for her illnesses cannot see her because she is in The Hospital she is in now (he says it has something to do with policy, since he is not affiliated with the hospital). He also said that her illnesses are not the cause of this injury, and that she would require surgery.

Monte has been attempting to talk her out of considering surgery, and wants her to go on a pain management regiment. They have not called down a Orthopedic Surgeon to see her as of yet.

Her Primary Doctor has recently become insane (I am actually not joking about that), and he cannot help her at all. She currently has no reliable primary, and her attending physician at montefiore does not intent to help her.

The opinion from the Neurologist, her Rumatologist, and the Physical Therapists have not been documented in her chart.

She requires spinal surgery, her Rumatologist knows this, the Neurologist from SoundShore knows this, and the Neurologist at Monte Knows this, but does not want to proceed that way.

She has asked to see her chart, and Montefiore stated that their policy requires that the attending physician go over the chart with her. We asked for a copy of the policy which states that, and they refused to give us the copy.

What are my options?

Would this be considered a criminal or civil matter?

Any word from a neurosurgeon? Spinal stenosis is a very painful disorder. I hope she recovers soon, but she will probably continue to require opioids for a long time.

They changed their opinion and don't want anything to do with her.

She's going to see a chiropractor.

I'm taking the MRI's and films to LIJ and Beth Israel.

Make sure a neurosurgeon sees the films AND her. Agree with getting a second (third...fourth) opinion. Dunno how much a chiropractor can really help in this case, if it really is a narrowing of the spinal canal. Keep us informed. She'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Does anyone have knowledge on Pacemakers/Defibrillators?

I had to have a pacemaker replaced and the doctor switched the leads ( did not hook them up correctly). It was eventually corrected. How long would it take to cause damage to my heart muscle? The rep from the St. Jude failed to check the machine and the doctors work so it was not caught before they sewed me up. Then less than a year later they tell me I need a defibrillator. Another 50k. I can not get an attorney in the small town I am in to take my case. It is a heavy mormon community in Utah. What should I do? It took me ONE YEAR to get a copy of my medical records. The hospital says they want their money and I have less than one year left before the statute of limitations runs out in this state. St. Jude did not return my calls, the doctor retired, and I am feeling really ****ed over. I wish someone could help me.
