Unhappy Breaking News:

CNN reports that gas stations will start showing PORN movies on screens of the pumps so you can see someone else get screwed at the same time you do.

My wife and I just drove down from Chicago to Myrtle Beach, SC (celebrating our 30th anniversary) -- arrived a couple of hours ago - I'm borrowing a dinosaur laptop that my daughter bought from a friend for $25 - Toshiba with a 366Mhz P-II and XP Home that is painfully slow, but at least it can connect with a wireless card I got for her. I was surprised to see gas for $3.39 several places in Tennessee. Of course, it's a sad day when you're glad to see gas for $3.39!

In South Carolina, I noticed a series of stations along the interstate that didn't have any gas. There's some sort of a delivery issue in some areas.

Not sure if it is still due to Ike but a number of places ran out of gas in the Carolinas last weekend. Nothing like some good old panic to cause a run on gas and let the stations gouge us with ridiculous prices.

I paid 3.79 the other day and thought "yahoo!". This is coming from a Texan who as a 16 year old got my first credit card - a Diamond Shamrock gas card - and gas was 49 cents a gallon. Anyone remember those good old days?

Hee hee... if only it were true.

They'd probably charge us even more for the gas as we watched... with my luck.

The lowest I can recall was in 1987, I believe - $0.649/gal for regular leaded. Back then I had a monster of a car - a 1968 Buick LeSabre that got, oh, maybe 4 or 5MPG going downhill. But I remember being able to go almost a week on $5 worth of gas. Ah, youth...

Heh..when I first got my '68 Vette in 1971, I cruised practically every night of the week with high test gas at 35 cents per gallon. Those were the days.
