Merry Christmas and Happy new year! An update on Mikey
Hey everyone. I hope your holiday was good.
I wanted to update you guys on Mikey. He is doing really good. He still doesn't want to use his left hand. He can - and I do force him too. He gets frustrated with it. Like last night playing GW he couldn't direct with the WASD keys or select targets as well as he could in the past and it was bugging him. He knows that it will be time that builds that back up but he really gets tired of hearing about it. He still has issues with carrying and balancing things - like carrying more than 3 plates when setting or clearing the table. Holding a glass with his left hand - has problems adjusting his grip to hold it without dropping it - too much or too little. One huge thing we are working on is his ability to recognize an object in his left hand with his eyes closed. Right now you can place a lego, a paperclip, a push pin, anything in his left hand and he will not recognize it. We are working with his OT on all of these issues. He finished PT on the 22nd of Dec. They worked with him on his balance and worked on streaching his calf muscles and coordination but mostly his balance. They are so happy with the progress he made. After visiting The Children's Center again for his first follow up, the rehab Doctor there reduced his PT to none and his OT to two visits a week. We follow up again with him in March. We were so very lucky and blessed as to where the AVM occured. This has been such an experience. And to say that my son has survived a stroke at age 11 is something I'm still getting used to saying. And this is going to be me being lazy and needing to make lunch for the family, but this is a link to a couple pictures of Mikey on November 9th. This was his first day at The Children's Center and only 5 days after the operation. One is of his scar. I really need to say thank you again for the support and well wishes and gifts he recieved. He (and I) really loved them all. |
