Repairing Toilet (Wax Ring)
Hi all, this is my first time replacing a wax ring on a toilet. I was wondering how important it is to have WD-40 to get the old wax off the bottom of the toilet before I put the new one on? Is there another household cleaner that works just as good if not better? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

it's not that big of a deal... just scrape it off good with a spatula and you're good. I just did it on my toilet and works great.

Wipe it off, replace with a jumbo ring - it'll be more forgiving in the event you don't set the china back down dead-straight.
Get some nylon shims while you're at the home supply place so you can level the bowl when you reset it. http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/b...ng/replace.htm

I've never done anything more than scrape off the old wax. Consider any residue that is stuck behind as extra adhesive to help hold the new ring tighter.
