Gift help
I have a mentor who is about 35 and i need to get him a gift, like something nice to let him know I appriciate everything he has done for me. He is 35, very wealthy, typical 80 hour a week lawyer, and has just about everything he could want. If he was a girl you would give flowers, what is the guy equivilent of flowers or a gift i could give? (please keep under $75)

Expensive wine. If you are under 21 then take him out to lunch a nice place.

The problem with wine is that I have no idea what is good and what is bad, and what his wine taste are. Also all resuraunts in this town suxor, either bad food, takes to long, por serice, poor sanitation, execcesive wait times etc. but thanks for thsoe ideas, and if you know of a general wine that is mostly universal that would be great.

I'd go with a nice bottle of Scotch over wine if he drinks:
You should be able to find a bottle for ~$55.

If he already has everything he wants, chances are, you probably couldn't afford the things that he hasn't already bought himself. Just think of something you think he might like, but maybe he hasn't seen before. I tend to stay away from food type gifts, because they usually don't last long enough to leave a lasting memory. If he is a lawyer, he's probably an avid reader--I found this to be true most of the time, so maybe you could find out a favorite author or poet. $75 should be more than enough to buy a very nice hard-bound novel or collection of poems.

It's not always the price of a gift that counts. The best things in life are free.
Why don't you just write him a poem/letter and tell him how much you appreciate him? I rec'd one a few years ago and I had it matted and put in a frame. That is the one gift that rank on my "treasure" list. ![]()

What about a small desk clock, maybe with a little something engraved on it.

I agree with you Lady....anything personal & from the heart is priceless... ...If you prefer to buy your gift... buying a "keep" thing would be much better than a gift that would disappear after a one time use...food/ alcohol... Something engraved and personal is a nice thought like Tom said... If there was anything about him or anything he's said to you that particularly stands out or that inspired you...engrave that on the gift... Here on the East Coast, we have a store "things remembered"...great for personalized gifts... Type in "Things Remembered" and tons of links will come up..at least you can get a look see idea there...plus there's 15-20% coupons off ![]()

I've personal always known that men love food, and I do mean love it. And that's where I guess we're going with the "wine" idea.
Um, is he married or anything? Is there someone you know that you could ask to see what he likes? ![]()

i really don't see the "things remembered" idea as working....just my opinion though. it's basically giving yet another thing to sit around and collect dust. not something most people want.
one thing you might think about (and i'm not sure if this is weird or not) is getting him a nice tie from a place like hermes or hugo boss. if he's an attorney, he probably wears a lot of ties, and no one can have too many -- especially nice stuff from some upscale designers. |
