Mixed Signals... What a headache!

Its times like this i wish i could read minds.
Have you ever gotten totally mixed signals from someone? One second they're smiling at you with a twinkle in their eye and the next second they're talking about how they never want to be in a relationship again and that they're totally satisfied as it is. I think under normal circumstances I'd just say screw it and jump in at the risk of looking like a fool/jackass but unfortunately for me the conditions aren't exactly what i'd call normal.
*Sigh*

I keep getting more and more confused, and it doesn't help a bit that i have finals in a couple days.

Long story? I got lotsa time when it comes to these matters as can be seen by the fact that i haven't studied more than 2 hours today

Thats where my problem starts... theres no way i can just give it a shot and if it doesn't work walk away from the situation, if i could then it would be just fine.
I have just reciently started opening my eyes to the fact that I DO and have in the past been hit on by girls. Its honestly something that I never noticed probably because i was too busy dealing with my own problems. But the subtleness that is the female come-on always hits me 10 minutes too late unfortunately.
