Tattoos

So I was wondering how many people here have tattoos? If you don't have one have you considered one?

I got my first one tonight

I don't have any, but my brother has a couple. He kind of regrets the 2nd one because it's not doing well with age.

As for other people here with tats, I think Nija is our resident tattoo addict.

Awesome!!

I've thought about getting one from time to time but I can never think of something to get that I like enough to actually do it

Ha! I am calling mine the fat-o-meter. I figure when it starts to stretch it is time for a diet. That way I will either have to stay the same weight or get skinnier

This is the First Session of my forearm (The Newest Pain Of My Life) I haven't taken any since I got the half of it filled it.

This is the Left Leg
This is the Right Leg
This WAS my left arm, before it was covered up (with a colorized, better rendition) (which I don't have pictures of either)

I have three chinese characters and one japanese character across my chest (approx. 2" x 2") They say, (reading from right to left) Evil Blood Knight.

oh, man, any girl who plans on ever getting pregnant and puts a tattoo anywhere on the ventral surface of her torso is asking for trouble... it's going to look like hell. nobody tells you this, but when you stretch out your skin - it doesn't go back the way it originally was. ever. you're going to have a picasso by the end of your childbearing years. you did pick a better spot than around your navel, tho... i've seen those one to three kids later... unrecognizable.

i have a 9-inch dragon on the left side of my back, and even it has a couple of (thankfully tiny and invisible) stretch marks on it. i would have put it in the center, but i'm pretty sure i'm going to need back surgery sometime in the next 40 years...

Not planning on having children. . .but who knows sometimes things don't go as planned.

There are more people than I thought would have them. Cool!

Tatoos on guys are dumb, unless its something that actually means something to you. Its like all the trend-****s who got tribal tatoos or barb wire tatoos back in 1996. Way to go idiots, now you are left with a permanent badge that says, "I was cool in the mid-ninties, but now I'm a total tool."

On girls it really depends. Sometimes they are cute, but its very, very easy to get one that just makes you look trashy. Plus they send messages that you might not want to send. If you have one of those "handlebar" tatoos on the small of your back, that definitly tells guys you're a slut and you may not be.

tattoos on guys are not dumb. it's a very personal decision, and those i know who have them are quite admirable.

I was going to get a big one of the Sacred Chao centered on my back, but haven't made the full commitment to Discordianism just yet.

Note I said words after the comma. If you read to the end of the sentence rather than stop when you see something that offends you it works out better for everyone.

Too permanent. One thing I've learned in 39 years is that who I am now and what I like now will not be the same in 10 years.

One of my son's friends is very cool and easy to talk to. For the longest time he had plugs in his ears, and I'd always give him good-natured crap about them. The last time I saw him, the plugs were gone and the holes closed up. I asked what gives? He said they were juvenile and he'd outgrown them. So now he was going to get his "sleeves". I asked what happens when he outgrows them and finds them juvenile? He was sure he never would...

He ended up getting a tattoo on his back, at least he can put a shirt over that!

Well since I didn;t articulate it before well enough for you to grasp at my meaning let me try again.

I find that there is a certain segment of guys who get trendy tatoos like the tribal/barbwire etc and that is stupid. If you are going to get a tatoo you should get something meaninglful, not something that effectively dates when you thought you were at your peak of hipness. So anyone who picks out their tatoo based on a fad or trend of the year is stupid.

Personally, I think Tattoos in general are stupid. They look disgusting on girls. Especially when they get insects (sorry emqtee) or cartoon characters or flowers. Seriously, you like these things, cool, but do they need to be permanently on your skin? So stupid! Also, I agree with Cant on the tattoos on guys. Most guys get them to be cool, as an accessory. I also don't understand why people get random tatoos on random parts of their bodies. Nija, why oh why do you want naked goblin chicks on you? What's the point?!

That said, there are some tattoos which I like. Large tattoos that cover back and wrap around to the front or arm - I think - are cool, but they have to be all on color and you have to be a COMPLETE bad ass (guy or girl) with a COMPLETELY bad ass body to pull something like that off. If you're fat no one wants you pulling up you shirt to see your pudgy tat.

They are an important part of the left sleeve. My left arm is going to be dedicated to the very hedonistic things in life (my life; not anyone else's).

It is alright, you can think whatever you want. They are definately not for everyone. However, I do have a reason behind getting a dragonfly. . . there was actually some thought put into it. I also got it basically for my own personal reasons and not to be "cool".

yeah, that's kinda what stopped me from getting a tattoo. I was gonna get one on the front of my hip, about 3 inches southwest of my belly button. had the design sketched out and everything (butterfly flying through fields of musical notes). then i wavered when someone pointed out that a pregnancy would distort it badly. and then my older bro asked me to imagine what it'd look like when i was 80. the thought of a wrinkly, sagging, stretched out butterfly was just too much to handle. got my belly button pierced instead.

my best friend has two, a tree frog clinging to her upper back, and a butterfly made of frogs on her lower back. her hubby has this flag/phoenix thing on his bicep. don't really like it... it almost looks like a "white-power" tattoo or something.

my tattoos are very important to me.

my first is a drawing made by my sister. a cartoon of a guy wailing away on guitar. guitar is my life.
the second is a shark, which i consider to be the bane of my existence. i am both fascinated and terrified by them.

the third that i have planned is a celtic circle that represents family. being a (relatively) new father, i wanted to celebrate my family. but i did not want to tattoo my childs name on me. i am half irish so the celtic theme works for me....

i'll have to take some pics when i get the third one done......

Hmm i guess if you like them then its all good. My thinking has kinda been, "Would you put a bumper sticker on your body?"

Just seems like you only get one body, might want to treat it real nice... If i really need a tatoo i'll henna it or something.
