Stuffy Nose!

hello. i've had a cold or something for about 11 weeks. i was under a lot of stress at the beginning of september over a project at work. got sick. no biggie. but the stuffy nose has persisted this long! i've slept well with nyquil. gotten like three flu shots. taken two different kinds of korean medication. and i still can't breathe through my nose. the doctor says that if it still persists, i may have to undergo some kind of medical procedure to get it taken care of.

anyone know what i can do or maybe know what kind of procedure this doctor is thinking of? thanks!

I think sometimes prolonged decongestant use can dry out your nose. Maybe try a saline nose spray. There is a good one that has eucalyptus in it and that smell helps unstuff noses. Another thing you can do is sleep with a humdifier or boil a pan of water to moisurize the air if it is too dry. Feel better soon!

If you have been taking some sort of decongestant for 11 weeks, you may want to try quitting it. After a time, they can actually cause the symptoms you are trying to fight with them.

Flushing out your sinuses can also keep you from getting a cold in the first place if you think you have been exposed and are just feeling the symptoms. I had to replace a coworker at his desk when he went home after sneezing and dripping and whatnot and by the time I got home I was starting to feel it too, but a couple rinses with a saline soultion and I never actually got sick while a couple of others did. Hope you get better soon!

small teapot? Don't know how comfortable that would be on your nasal passage though..actually after giving it much thought-how about a large zip lock baggie with one end cut off? that would work similar to an enema bag-which is precisely what a neti pot is-a nasal enema...lol..
I would only use a teaspoon of salt per 1 quart of water-and make sure it's room temp. Not warm. Not Hot. Not cold. And make sure you find the correct tilt to your head when you are flushing-the trick is to have the solution go in one side and come out the other at the same time...It does work!~

Just go to the hospital already. They're cheap in Korea. They'll get you a nebulizer with some cure all medicine and you'll be out in jiffy.

Do they sell bulb syringes there? You know the ones that they use on babies? That is what an allergist told me to use for the nasal washings.

Have you had fevers or any other symptoms? Do they sell anything like loratidine (Claritin) in Korea? As someone else said, if you've been using any nasal sprays except for saline, it is easy to become dependent on them. They can cause rebound stuffiness.

In those situations i eat a lot of pho and make it really spicy. That's a sure fire way to clean out the ole' nasal passages. The procedure isn't pretty to watch so you might want to order it to go.

I'm not sure of a specific medical procedure. Do they want to drain your sinus cavities?
