Medical question - headache

i've had a kind-of headache over the past couple days and wonder what might be wrong.

basically, i've been extremely fatigued over the past couple weeks, despite getting 8-9 hours of sleep (except for a couple nights). i've also been eating fairly well, and fairly regularly.

for the past week, my eyes have hurt. not like they're dry and scratchy, but my eyeballs just feel sore. then yesterday, i started getting a headache. most of the time it's just a dull ache, but part of the time i'll feel throbbing on the right side of my head, kind of in the center of my head (not in the temple or forehead, but further back).

i read about migraines, and my symptoms don't really seem to match migraine symptoms (no intestinal problems, no dizziness, etc).

anyone know what might be wrong? (by the way, i've taken tylenol and it seems to have no impact.)

Do you need glasses? Maybe you are anemic, you're vegetarian aren't you? Do you get enough iron?

I hope you feel better soon.

PS-Tylenol NEVER makes my headches better. I have to take ibuproffen.

actually, i wear contacts or glasses, depending on the day. i suppose i could be anemic -- although ironically i've been eating more leafy green veggies (to get my iron) than i usually do.

maybe i'll try some ibuproffen.

Are you drinking enough water and eating enough? I get headaches like that when I haven't had enough of either of those. Usually dehydration will cause my eyes to hurt like that.

Do you have allergies or sinus problems? That can cause a lot of fatigue and pain around your eyes.

hmm....i don't think i've been drinking less water than usual, but i'm going to focus on drinking a lot of water of the next few days. maybe that will help get rid of the problem.

try to avoid alot of high "eye stress" things like playing on the computer!...
also-get your prescription for your glasses/contacts rechecked..maybe your eyes have changed..other than that-it's probably just some kind of winter flu setting in..feel better-eat soup and steam yourself and your sinuses at least once a day.

you need to drop out of school, smoke pot, and become a burden to society. that's the only way to make them leave. do it now.

I second Jenny. Dehydration is the most common cause of bad headaches I get. I used to think they were caused by other things.

Whitak....according to my opthamologist EVERY attorney he ever met/treated eye's became progressively worse during law school/their career. The problem stems from all of the fine print we read. Make sure that you are reading in good light...avoid standard flourescents and take breaks for your eyes.

Have you noticed any redness in your eyes or is it just a feeling without any visible indications of a problem? I know that some individuals will develop issues with the amount of moisture in their eyes and require drops or the use of special contacts. This can cause the uncomfortable feeling in the eye as well as some discomfort.

One last thing....Excedrin migraine works well for headaches of all types. If that wont take care of it...then its time to see the doc.

interesting. the ironic thing is that i just got new glasses, so my eyes were checked like 3 weeks ago. so my glasses prescription is up to date, athough my contact prescription is about a year an a half old.

hmm....i suppose my eyes may be getting worse. maybe i can get an appt. with my eye dr. over christmas.

There is something no one has suggested, but is likely the most probable cause of people getting headaches: changes in caffeine intake. Caffeine is also in chocolate, so having a lot of chocolate one day may give you headaches a few days later. When headaches are related to food, there is a lag in symptoms, so it's difficult to pinpoint. Usually headaches due to coffee will happen faster than a few days.

my input. Hopefully you're feeling better now whitak

interesting point about the caffeine. i don't drink coffee/colas, so i usually have (virtually) no caffeine intake. monday night/tuesday morning, when i was up late working on a project, i ate a bunch of left-over halloween candy from my friend. then, the headaches started about 36 hours later.

the headache problem is gone, but my eyes still hurt like hell. just touching the eyelid, they are super-sensitive.

If your eyes are that sensitive - don't wear your contacts put on your glasses-this helps reduce the sensitivity. Your contact RX-is that current? Don't try and see the Dr. during Christmas its crazy this time of year with everyone and their insurance - do it like the first week of Dec. its an ok time to do so. The headache could be called a "cluster headache" check the symptoms to see if that could be it. Hope this helps.

if your eyelids are tender... go to a doctor and get it checked out. that's odd, and it's your red flag. it could be as simple as dry air now that it's cold and the heaters are running, and you need visine and/or a humidifier. but it could be any of the other things suggested here, or it could be something worse. i wouldn't let this go, if for no other reason than headaches suck and it'll probly be easy to fix them.

and, as a kick in the pants so you don't put it off...

prm had a patient last week with the same symptoms. a bacteria was chewing on the entire optical apparatus. she luckily got antibiotics soon enough that she didn't lose her eyes.

rare? yes. but not that rare. and it's not like she was immune-compromised or otherwise sick or really old... normal woman. licked her contact before putting it in her eye. yep. go to a doctor... NOW!
