Chicken safety

Bought on 11/14
"Sell By:" 11/17
Frozen on 11/17

Dethawed on Saturday afternoon by putting one breast (in a ziplock bag) in the refrigerator

It's still in there after 3 days

Is it okay to eat it?

I wouldn't eat it unless I cooked it first.

Seriously, I'd use it.

Use your "Bad Chicken Detector", your nose. If it smells funky, run away. If not, just make sure it is cooked hot enough (not in a microwave because it will not get hot enough to kill all the bacteria).

I plan on cooking it in the oven for 25-30 minutes at 425, haha... it's got marinade, so hopefully it's not masking any unsavory odors

go for it. if we don't hear from you on here for a month, we'll assume you're dead from eating spoiled chicken and we will have all learned something about food handling.

heh i have that happen all the time. i buy chicken on sale and then freeze it in individual bags and thaw them the day before. sometimes i forget or get busy and then after a few days i still have the chicken. so far no sickness for me, but i usually go by how it smells. if it even smells a bit funny it goes in the trash.

You're fine. A day more and you'd be boarder line.

I've eaten chicken that smelled funky because of being in the fridge too long and so far haven't gotten sick yet so it should be ok. If by some off chance you do die from this, let me apologize in advance.

yes, it will be fine to cook and eat....as long as you purchased it and froze it by the sell date-you have about 3 days to spare once it's completely defrosted (in the fridge not on a counter I hope!)...with marinade-if it has a high acid content-you can extend it by a day or two and will make the meat even more tasty and tender...

Wow I must be pushing it. I bought a family value pack for $1.25. Cooked half for chicken salad, chicken sandwich and froze the other half. I ate the frozen ones about 1 week later. I do the same for ground beef. Whatever I don't use I freeze and then cook and eat weeks or months later.

Dude, how many posts has Ski had about possibly dangerous food. If there's anything that says "College Student" loud and clear....

the problem is how long you let it thaw AFTER you freeze it.

Here's another question:

I had a footlong Subway (ham and turkey), took out out of the fridge at 11am, ate half at 2 or 3pm, then was going to eat the rest at 5pm. My mom yelled at me (I ate it on the 6 hour drive home) and said that since it was out for 5-6 hours it would be bad. What do you think? I had it next to a cold 2 liter bottle for 3 hours, then the 2nd half was sitting out in my 40 degree F car the rest of the ride home (I like it cold so I don't fall asleep).
