bratz dolls/playsets
gameboy advance
"juice" player... it's this lil thing that plays cool tv shows and music videos on gameboy-ish cartridges

hmmm... 11 is kinda tough... probably too old for the bratz thing. i'm trying to remember if i still wanted dolls at that age... that's 6th grade. i guess not.

gift certificate to the limited too (cool clothes for ages 6-14, and any girl can find what she wants except maybe trashwhores) ... if there is one nearby.

maybe one o them pre-paid credit-card thingies? it's responsible, flexible...

or go to a dry ice type store... something with cool stuff to decorate girly-girl rooms. there's fuzzy pillows, goofy rugs, cool chairs, picture frames... there's honestly nothing in there an 11 year old girl wouldn't like, unless she's into wearing black lipstick just include a gift receipt, whatever you get!

ooooh, anything with happy bunny! there's all sorts of happy bunny crap out there, and it's a little edgy, so definitely cool, but very unlikely to piss off parents, unless they're very, very humorless.

maybe even a cheap-ish mp3 player, if you're certain teh family has the computer resources to deal with it?

i saw this cool camera once that prints out pics you take on stickers... any 7-year-old girl would poop her pants over that.

that's about it for me...

ooooh, no, wait! if i was 7, i would want ello stuff... they sell it at target. it's these little plastic components that you can snap together to make dollhouses, hair accessories, picture frames, tons of cool stuff... you could get her a nice set of several different boxes for the price range you gave.

Ashley, 8, likes craft kits, bratz, clothes, books, movies, dress-up stuff, art supplies, bubble bath and make-up, hair stuff, etc.

Good luck!

Man, our girls love the Bratz (and have a bunch o' their crap) but I don't see anything redeeming from them. They're made up to look like little ho's and the outfits match the make-up. I can't stand them.

If they're readers pick them up some of the Lemony Snicket books. Our oldest started reading them a couple of years ago (when she was seven) and has gone through them all now!

11 year olds are the age where they like little purses to put all their stuff..they also like those bead jewelry kits, and kits that they can make things like hair braiding stuff..

After reading this, I realized how much of a tomboy my 12 year old daughter is. She likes NONE of the things mentioned. She's into sports stuff, mainly basketball & soccer. For her it's video games (Sims 2 is her current favorite), lego kits, or sports related items (ie. posters, new bball, new shoes, new shorts, trip to see college game, etc.).

You could always give a gift certificate to a record/video/video game store. That's pretty safe and usually something that the parents don't splurge on the kids with.

I have girls those ages. Both LOVE Polly Pockets. A gift card for a makeup/nail polish type store would be good for the 11 year old. I'm with Faither, stay away from Bratz, they look like ho's.

My girls are close to the same ages, and I agree with kb0wwp, especially about the Bratz dolls.

My 12-year-old is getting out of the Polly Pockets, but her sister is still all over them.

This year, they're both getting flash-based MP3 players along with some clothes (they're heavily into the graphic tees), and a couple of games ("Scene It" seems to be a hot game this year, along with the word game "MadGab").

Gift cards from Claire's, The Icing (which is Claire's), Barnes and Noble, and Kohl's (if they're in your area) are really big hits. The other thing that was a major hit with my kids and nieces/nephews are the Visa Gift Cards, available from most of your major banks.
