do you work out when you are sick?
maybe not as aggressively, but do you still try to get some calorie burning activity in when you have a cold or a touch of the flu?
do you think the activity will help you get rid of the illness sooner?

If I feel a cold or flu coming on, a workout seems to shorten the effects of the illness. Not always, but more often than not.
My workouts at points like this are at home-- I don't want to infect the people at my health club. |

Really depends on the type of illmess. If it is something bad then no. But it is something like a cold I usually do. It seems working up a good sweat really makes it go away much quicker.

i had a bad cough that kept me from working out for 2 weeks. it was such a pain because I couldn't run or do cardio stuff because I could hardly breathe. and I could barely lift weights because I would start coughing violently and have drop the weight (which is bad thing when you are benchpressing, even with a spot). So I just stayed away from the gym all together. When I just have a head cold I'm fine with working out. I do think in those cases it makes me feel better quicker.

I don't work out when I'm relatively healthy, why would I work out when I'm sick.

I haven’t gotten sick in a while but I recall coming to work feeling half dead and then going off to the gym. I may not go through a full routine but just enough to feel like I did something that day.

Years ago I would play basketball and try to sweat my illness out, so yes, i would exercise/work out when i was sick.

Yes, assuming it's a mild illness. Like when I have a cold or something, I'll keep my same workout routine. If I have the stomach flu or a fever, then obviously not.
It DOES seem to make colds go away more quickly. |

I agree with the majority of opinions stated. I might ease back a little, but i try to break a sweat for like 30 minutes when i am sick and i think it either speeds up my healing, or it just gets more adrenaline and such going that i dont feel as bad for the day. But like when i am puking or have a fever, then i take it pretty light. Hope you feel better soon.

exercising regularly means you will be less likely to get the flu and more likely to recover quickly.
experimental results show very clearly that exercising while you have the flu makes symptoms more severe and longer-lasting. experimental results are not anywhere near as clear for colds, but similar... basically, it probly won't hurt much, but it's definitely not going to help much. do it if it feels good, but don't make yourself do it in the hopes of speeding recovery.

I'll workout unless I'm too sick or tired to.
