does money == more comfort?

i admit it... i'm cheap! i don't see the point in spending a ton of cash on clothes/shoes/etc, cuz i figure fashions will change long before i wear it out, and if i buy cheap i can buy more! but someone told me recently that expensive shoes won't hurt your feet, and that just might be something worth paying extra for, especially when i'm out dancing. what's your opinion? are expensive shoes (i'm talking 60-100 bucks, i'm not gonna spend hundreds on a pair of shoes unless they're the most comfortable pair in the world, and are lined in gold) more comfortable then cheap shoes (15-30 from target, payless, ross, etc)?

and on a slight side note, what is worth spending the extra bucks on? for me, electronics is about the only area i splurge.

I don't think anything can beat a nice pair of shoes. From the fit to construction it makes a *huge* difference.

For example, I spent 250 on a pair of shoes, I got them redone 2 times in 6 years and they still look damn good despite me wearing them all of the time.

Then you have your cheap run of the mill Rockport/Timberland/Target (yes, I lumped them all in there), which have foam/rubber bottoms, bad stiching, and worse leather. They wear out after a year or two of heavy use.

These days I don't buy anything without a good bottom and nice leather.

Cheapest is not always the best value. For shoes, it depends on the use. If they are for everyday like work or exercising or just walking, your feet will thank you for getting a nice pair. If it is to be worn only a few times, you can get away with paying less. To find an excellent pair of shoes at a great price- now that is the deal! Cheaper shoes will make your feet hurt and be sweaty and will wear out more quickly so you have to buy more pairs. If it costs twice as much, but works three times as long, which was the better purchase? If you already have cheaper shoes and cannot afford new ones yet, get a pair of insoles for them. Fashion shoes- trends change so go cheap- many will be overpriced anyways. Work or athletic shoes, get good ones. Look at the construction- are they leather or plactic imitations? Is the sole plastic or rubber (plastic can be slippery on wet surfaces). Are the soles stitched or glued or even melted on? Do they have any arch support? Try them on later in the day when your feet are largest to check for a good fit- they will swell as the day goes on.

I've been pretty lucky with shoes (both in not having to pay a lot and in getting decent quality), but recently, I found that a $30 pair of boots I got weren't that great. I had to walk about 10 miles in them, and I ended up with a couple of 2-inch blisters on each foot. It's the first time I've had blisters that bad from a relatively short hike.

Still, I think you can assess how good the shoes are before hand, and price isn't always the determining factor. It is possible to find good, cheap shoes.

i would not skimp out on cheap shoes at all. i bought cheap shoes in korea (black leather ones) and they hurt like a mother. i bought more expensives ones of a similar style at nordstroms and they are much much more comfy.

i definately don't skimp on shoes. i still look for deals, but comfortable shoes are a must because you can do some serious damage with bad shoes.

there's only a few places where I splurge and spend the extra bucks:

beer (obviously, no crappy beer allowed)
gifts for my fiancee
car parts (no cheap stuff that will be more of a headache in the long run, especially tires)
food at the grocery store (great home-cooked meals start with quality ingredients)

I buy average shoes I guess not expensive and not cheap $50-60 dollar range, but when it comes to dress shoes I always go cheap cause I never wear them. But if you want an average pair of comfy shoes go with sketcher, or doc martins a little more but worth it

I used to go cheap on shoes when I wasn't working, but know that I wear heels all day, it's worth it to me to buy for comfort.

Insurance is well worth the money (life). The earlier you start saving, the better.

Good advice! Shoes are wholly another matter as compared to the rest of your wardrobe. There are heath issues to consider here. Find a Quality Manufacturer for each use and stick with them. In shoes, price generally equals quality.

I never really cared about shoes too much. I'm very hard on my shoes, so no matter how much I spend on them, they all last me a short amount of time. So I figure, I might as well buy cheap.

I hope you're not talking about whole life/universal life. If you are, you're getting screwed. Life insurance is great, investing is great. But mix the two together and they suck.

i've managed to find very cheap comfortable shoes... i just threw out a $15 pair that was 10 years old and finally starting to look ratty.

money doesn't necessarily equal quality... unless you're talking about mac and cheese. the quality is DIRECTLY proportional to the amount you spent.

I'm on my feet all day, a good pair of shoes is a must. I go walking everyday at lunch time, I notice a big difference from one pair of running shoes to the next, it’s definitely worth spending then extra $20-$30 or so...

I am willing to spend more for good stuff. I love my last pair of Adidas Clima-cool shoes. They are super light, have good cushioning, and have vents everywhere to keep my feet from getting sweaty. They are so comfortable they are even better than going barefoot.
Best $75 I ever spent on shoes.
