Big brother program
I just found out that my brother has been doing this big brother program for a year or so, he lives in the in-law apartment at my home. He never told any of us that he was doing it because he didn't want any of us to think he was weird. You know what, I always thought about doing it myself, I think I'm admiring him right about now...

You should be proud to have a brother with these attributes. The fact that he didn't talk about it for a year says a lot about the guy... A LOT, and it's all good!

I just went by Big Brothers/Big Sisters this week. Can you do me a favor and find out what kinds of things he does with his big brother? I'd like to know someone's real-life experience with it, rather than just being sold on it by an employee of the place.

Ohhhh. I was under the impression that he was the "little brother" for some reason. Still, that sounds really cool. I've done mentoring in a school setting before, but Big Brothers just seems more involved and well-organized.

I've always admired people who did that. I'd like to do it, but I have two kids and they would probably get jealous.

I do this program through my school and what I do with my little is to play sports at the school gym - basketball, etc. Actually we have a good group of friends (actually fraternity brothers) who all also have little brothers and generally we have enough heads to get a little 5-on-5 basketball game going. I have to admit that I began doing this out of necessity (philanthropy requirements) but really have enjoyed my experiences from day one. One time we invited the kids to a local arcade where we had some loose tokens and they had a blast.
If you've got the time to do it, definitely do it - it's quite an experience.

That is what I first thought this thread was about the show. But, if you read further it is not.
