Oi. The "I wanna be cool like everyone else" stage

Ok, background to the story:

A couple of days ago, a girl from school gave Josh a plastic necklace. He's been wearing it around the house and he has been wanting to wear it to school as a bracelet (double it up of course). We keep saying no, that boys don't wear jewelry, etc. Apparently it's a bigger issue than we realized. heh On the way to school today he said, (with a very downcast face), I just wanna be cool like everyone else.

*SIGH*

He waited for Coby who was walking to school with his dad this morning. So he waited outside the car. Pretty soon, after we'd said bye (I was waiting for him to go in), he knocked on the car window. I rolled it down, he & Coby were standing there, and Josh said, "See mom? HE looks cool." *sigh*

I knew we'd get to this point sometime but he's only 7! He's still my baby! Where does time go?

Misinformation on the net is the norm, but here in GA, we regulate.

Watch is ok. Wedding ring is ok. Championship ring is ok. School ring...

In vegas or atlantic city or if your italian, you can add a bracelet and a couple of diamond earrings to go with the mr. t starter kit. Must be worn with open silk shirt and gold tooth to complete ensamble.

When he's older, if he wants to wear a simple chain, bracelet, watch or ring, fine. But at 7, no.

I see it as a kid playing dress up. It will probably be a short-lived phase (remember pogs?) that could give him some enjoyment while it lasts. It's not like he's asking you to buy him $100 shoes. Just wait for that.

Yeah, CrystalDuck, that's the exact conclusion I came to this morning when I realized how important it was to him.

Mikey wears the plastic jewelry too. (he's eight)

He does wear his St. Anthony medal on occasion, but I don't like him wearing it to school -- one of his subs this year threatened to take it from him. I would rather some cheap plastic thing get taken from him than that.

why would they take it? do they have a right? That teacher would get his ass kicked for that..

Whenever a teacher threatened to take something from me i told them to go ahead and try it but this was never about jewelery

He had it off and playing with it.

Good reason.

though it isent the norm, jewelry on men is ok, as long as it isn't gaudy and is tastefull. alot of jewelry is unisex or made for men. i know allot of men that wear jewelry or some type of lucky charm. ill admit that most of these guys that i know either sell it or make it. jewelry can be manly, im wearing a hopi indian silver bear claw necklace it doesn't look feminine at all. some guy wearing a thick gold chain with a cd hanging from it doesnt look nice, but it doesent look feminine. if you dont want him wearing plastic beads or pink blacelets get him somthing nicer to wear, kids love little treasures and they usually take good care of them.

well, he got to wear it Friday to Field Day at school. He ended up breaking it, so it had to be thrown away. lol Solved that problem, at least for now.
