Help! How to get a social life, when new to Irvine?

So, I am at a bit of a loss. I am never really bad at meeting people, but right now I just need some hints. I just moved to Irvine, and I am looking for something to do, on the weekends and on some week nights.

I live with an odd group of people, who are never around, so no luck on the roomates showing me around. At work, a few people seem cool, but most are married or live in long beach or something out of the way.

I don't know if there are some bars with people my age, and I would feel kinda odd trying to meet people at D&B or something. Someone suggested walking around UCI, and just meeting people, but i get home in the evening, and I think it might be freaky if I walked around UCI at night.

Short of some internet site, I am not quite sure how to meet people around here. I was waiting for some Got|Apex members to take me around in a limo and point out what is fun to do (Hint Hint Mike and Grace) but I suppose everyone already has a life.

So if anyone has some suggestions I am all ears! I don't want to become some crusty 8-5 guy.

Irvine sucks, theres nothing to do there, its just a big suburb, every street looks the same to me over there. I mean I guess its cool if you got a family or somethin but being a guy my age, it blows over there but then again I think everywhere besides L.A. blows so dont listen to me.

i hate it when people get so down on Irvine. it's a nice city, w/in an hours drive of anything you could possibly want. live in the middle of the desert for a few years, and then see what you think of irvine. personally, i thought irvine was great when i lived there, and i know plenty of people who've lived in LA and moved back to Irvine because they missed it so much.

anyway, AmRivlin, you could try friendster or something similar. I think it's kinda hard in general to just meet people... usually i meet people through classes, clubs, work, etc. There's actually a lot of G|A in the so-cal area, so maybe suggest a lunch or something. or you could plan a G|A get together yourself, since it tends to be a lot of work for Ray. if you're willing to drive up to LA, i'd have lunch with you.

Irvine? Good luck my friend. Try hanging out more in Huntington Beach or something. There's much more going on there.

there is no such thing as a social life in irvine. it's creepy suburbia at its finest.

i swear, there is something very fishy going on behind the scenes there; i get a little creeped out every time i visit my cousins there.

Unfortunately, I'm in L.A. If you wanna come down to L.A., I'll show you around my hood.
