do you think that when someone of the opposite sex compliments you...

and i don't mean a relative, or your minister or anyone like that...

but just someone of the opposite sex that compliments you, do you think the underlying meaning to the compliment is that deep down they'd like to jump your bones?

think about it. . .

Is this compliment before or after you're in the backseat of their car?

Depends on what the compliment is. ex:

"Nice arms, nice a$$, let's meet up after class" - Yeah, I would guess that they would like to jump my bones.

"It's so nice to hang out with a guy who isn't all hung up on his looks." - Not really

"See, that's what I like about you. Most guys who look like you would never even have the nerve to talk to someone who looks like me. " - Not really

"You are such a wonderful person. You're like a little sister to me" - Time to go jump off that bridge now.

not at all. of course it depends on the relationship one has with this friend, but i am a happily married man and if i compliment a woman it's not because i have any desire to jump their bones. same goes for my female friends who compliment me.

From a man to a woman... of course it means that.

From a woman to a man... well, it MIGHT mean that... but you'd better act fast because they are prone to changing their minds rather quickly.

I once had a cashier at Office Max tell me she thought my shirt was "calming". That was the weirdest compliment I've ever heard. No, I didn't think it had any underlying meaning.

depends. Generally, man to woman, yes. Woman to man, eh, maybe but less likely.
Like I generally don't compliment women that i'm not attracted to.

Generally I think that when a man compliments me it's because they want me. Of course, I get the same from one of my fem friends too...

In today's society... they probably want you too in that case.

Girls do all kinds of things with each other that are taboo to most "guys"... but behind the scenes... they want each other.

I just don't compliment people so they wont take it the wrong way.. If I like a Girl I just tell her I like her.. if she isn't into me.. that's her problem.. there are many fishies in the Sea!

Just because you're married doesn't mean you don't have urges to jump on other women and do the nasty.

Good for you! I wish more people thought that way, life would be so much easier, and you wouldn't have that sad story that was posted here a while ago. (Friends in love with each other never share.)

And I think you can't tell from just one compliment. Some people are just like that and were taught that it's friendly to complement people. Same for using people's names a lot when you have a conversation with them. You have to observe how they talk to other people as well. But if you wanted to jump their bones, I'd say that's a sign to act.

Most of the time when people compliment me they have a knife and butter in hand, so I generally think they are up to no good.

Well, a girl can compliment a guy and the guy may not take it as an opportunity, but methinks that the guy will likely try to think of a way in which it would be an opportunity.

"Ooh, she said nice shirt. Maybe if I buy fifteen more of these I'll have a chance with her."
Or maybe that's just the nerd in me talking...

Have to agree that it depends on the compliment...if a guy tells a girl " nice dress but it would look better on the floor" he wants her.

I'm naive and I'd like to think that when a man compliments me it is sincere. But now you have me thinking and yeah.. they want some!

No, not necessarily but it could mean other things...depends on the comment (like several others have said).

I also agree with what Thesifer said; I hate all these "mixed messages/hidden meaning" things that people are so keen to do nowadays; if you like me, just tell me you frickin' like me...if you don't, boo hoo, who cares, next". That's one thing I love about the relationship my wife and I have - we don't keep secrets and we say what we feel. I'm one of the most direct people I know...I tell people what I think about them and I don't care what they think in return or what other people say. I'm like Kramer said on Seinfeld one time..."Cause I'm like ice, buddy, if I don't like you, you've got problems."

Good question... a lot of girls do complement me for various reasons but I just don't look into it any deeper. You'd just be killing yourself if you over thought every situation like that. It's the "Oh damn she MUST like me because glanced in my direction" syndrome. If she likes you she'll let you know.

I just had a single female friend say to me a few weeks ago, "Whomever marries you will be very lucky". I just sorta gave her a look and said, "Umm..okay". I hope that means something

Nah, it means that I think you're a good guy but you're past the friend zone, you're in the "little brother" zone.
