Birthcontrol...

So there was just a commercial for one of the patch bitrhcontrols. Apparently their main selling point is that you dont have ot remember to take a pill once a day, and th epatch is just once a week.

Now is it just me...or are you more likely to remember to do something everyday or once a week?

I tried the patch.

I actually remembered the patch more easily than the pill. Because you know how a bandaid gets gooey and dirty? So does the patch. You can't wait till the 7th day to beable to take it off and put on a new one and scrub where the old one was.

I'd guess that normally, you can see the patch anytime you are naked in front of the mirror. So it's always right there, as a reminder. heh

I think the patch is a ridiculous idea. Just like chrissy said, it's on your body for 7 days, all the dirt gets stuck to it and that's what you have to walk around with for a week (I'm sure that's a real big turn on - you get naked and there's a big gray dirty sticky square on your butt).

no matter how many patches a man wears, it will not work.

The best form of birth control is to babysit someone elses bratty kids for a couple of hours. Works wonders.

i used pills for a while, but for about 8 months now i have been using the patch. i like it alot. it doesn't really get gooey or anything on me. when i'm in the shower i can even scrub over it and it doesn't come off or anything

i would always forget to take my pills at the same time everyday, so the patch is alot easier for me

Oh Gawd, birth control! I hated the pills; you forget one day and worry that you may be preggo. The patch? Holy crap, that has got to be attractive. I'm thinking that if you wear it in a visible place then it would be like saying... ,"I'm on BC, want to.. (insert explitive here).

I liked depo injections. It's just one injection with a little, tiny needle every 3 months and no worries. You also lost your period after a time.
But no matter what you choose, remember use LATEX and be safe.

Okay this thread is making me confused and worried.

Well... that's why most people don't put the patch on their foreheads.

Can't wear it on your arm.

And if I remember right, it actually has the drug company name on it (prob for First Aid, EMTs and ER instances)

You're talking about Norplant; Depo Provera is a shot that a woman gets every 3 months. There's also IUDs, foams, sponges, and barriers (diaphragm...sp?) as well as the (already discussed) pills and patches

I wish there was a pill that I (as a guy) could take; I'd do it in a heartbeat.

There is... it's called a garlic pill. One pill a day and you will never have to worry about getting a girl pregnant (no girl will give you the chance).

Seriously though, birth control pills aren't nearly as safe as everybody likes to think they are. They cause increased risk of blood clots/strokes (worse if with smoking but still possible alone), endometrial cancers, ovarian cancers, uterine cancers (decreased with the mini-pills but still higher than normal), etc... Personally, I don't understand why women agree to take them. The safest method of birth control is still a condom (well, it's abstinence but plenty of data out there to show that that isn't a viable option for the vast, vast majority of the population) for the guy and lesbian sex for the woman.

Okay this thread is making me confused and worried.

Is that really healthy, losing your period after awhile? Your period is actually cleansing your insides, isn't it? Besides, I like having a monthly confirmation of "not pregnant!". Even though there's a small chance of getting pregnant when you properly take the pill or other birth control, there's always that 1% chance, where the stuff didn't work, and a woman got prognant!

Does anyone have that implant?

I loved the depo shots as I didn't have periods. But the only downfall was that it made me gain A LOT of wieght.

any kind of weight gain is NOT worth it.
this is why im still hesitant about the pill,...i know so many people who have gained 20 lbs and more from the pill, depo, patch, just BC in general

It's not unhealthy. Bleeding while on the hormone birth controls aren't true periods. They are a withdrawal side effect of the pill. And as for getting pregnant... some people would rather buy a pregnancy test (if you're really cheap you can buy them at the $.99 store) than getting a weekly period. And any of the methods can be used to skip "periods" ... just don't take the placebo pill or the placebo patch . The only downside is it takes a bit longer to get pregnant after you stop.

Getting pregnant will put on some weight too. Everybody's bodies react differently to the pill. It's hard to say what will happen for a given person.

well the implants are almost impossible to find a doctor who will put them in. there is also the once a month birth control called the nuva-ring, you insert it once a month, an take it out after 3 weeks. it is safe to not have a period they recommend you have one once a year but if your not have a period you are not going to have any gunk build up.

just thought i should add this in: my OBGYN told me that skipping periods is not recommended because it causes more of the menstrual blood to build up on the lining of your uterus making it fertile ground for cancer cells to form and spread...

Even Seasonale ( www.seasonale.com ) gives you 4 periods a year. That sounds safe to me. Anyone try it?

I'm wondering what reasearch (s)he's thinking of. I'm pretty darn sure women build less blood when they're on their period.
