Ok, I'm gonna get some bedding from Overstock and I need to know the terms. I understand what sheets and pillow cases are. However, "Duvet covers" have me stumped. From the name I'm assuming it's a cover for a duvet The thing is they don't have anything called "duvets." I'm guessing a duvet is like a down blanket? Is that what a duvet is....a blanket? What's a throw then? Cause they do sell throws. Can I put a throw inside a duvet cover? I guess my question is, if I get a duvet cover, what do buy to put inside it?



p.s.. Oh, and how much difference does "thread count" really make? Will 600 TC be that much more luxurious that 300? I just don't want something cheap and scratchy. But then again, I've noticed the really high TC's are actually silky, which I don't really want either. I just want something really warm/fuzzy/soft/cozy. What's a good TC to get?

Welcome to the world of man, things that stump us. I think ( i just bought a duvet cover ) is like a cover for a comforter type blanket. Mostly fancier than a comforter.

A throw to me is one of those lightweight blankets that isnt too large.

I have 400 thread count sheets and they are ok, I think Egyptian Cotton is the way to go, they feel nice and are only like 200 TC.

This probably doesn't help, but its my two cents.

So would a 300 TC Egyptian Cotton sheet feel softer than a 500 TC, um, Sateen sheet, for example?

So I don't want to be the official voice to this question. I have a set of sateen sheets too, and I like them alot. They got really soft after I washed them. I'm not sure where everyone else. Check out this thread, hopefully this answers your questions a bit better. I would go to Macy's, Target, or somewhere where they have sheets and physically touch them. Just remember they will soften a bit after you touch them.

Well, from what I've gathered I figured I can't go wrong if it's Egyptian Cotton with a decent thread count, so I went ahead and ordered some 400TC Egyptian Cotton sheets and duvet covers as well as a nice comforter. It's gonna be SOOOO SOFT!!!

actually I have the satin the egyptian and the sateen - I like the sateen best - it is soft and comfy even more so after each wash - 300-400 TC is great imo.

Duvet cover isn't actually a correct term. It's actually just a duvet.

I think the "duvet cover" is a thin sheet that you use to wrap the duvet. If not, I've got myself a spare comforter.

the duvet cover goes between the comforter and the fitted sheet ....usually they're thin

"Duvet cover" is something like saying "tuna fish". The second term is already contained in the first.

yeah. i was so confused at first. duvet cover is pretty much a sheet that covers your comforter. allows you to clean only the duvet rather than the whole comforter. think of it as a pillow case for the comforter.

A duvet is usually goose down filled and is difficult to wash. It usually has to be dry cleaned or the feathers bunch. So if you buy a duvet cover...which is a slip to put over your goose down duvet (comforter but much, much warmer) then you dont have to wash the duvet as often just the cover and the duvet will last much longer. I have a duvet and I love it, its so warm. As for sheets I love my fleece set they are soft and warm.
