Need to dye my hair. Brand recommendations?

lol I know that most of you won't have any opinions. But gotta ask.

I'm getting some gray hairs. *sigh* My wonderful son first pointed them out. So anyway, I wanna dye my hair, but can't afford to go to the salon. Any recommendations on brands?

Well, it depends on what color. A big problem sometimes is that gray hair resists the dye.

I usually go with deep shades of red, and I've found that L'oreal fades the fastest and the semi-permanent like Natural Instincts tend to stay longer than it says on the box. And the roots look more natural.

I used to use Feria or Garnier 100% color. They are both really hard on your hair. (and pretty expensive) if you use one of those plan to condition a lot.

When I have the urge to dye my hair now it is Clairol nice 'n easy. It is fairly inexpensive (compared to the other two listed above), has built in highlights, and doesn't seem as harsh.

I have had good results with the L'Oreal Couleur Experte line. They come with color and highlights, and a good after conditioner. It's a big more expensive, like $15, but it's worth it for me. Plus, it doesn't stink, and it covers my grays perfectly.

If you're just starting to get gray, start with a non-peroxide product.

Clairol Revitalique...however, about 4 years ago, it was discontinued. Fortunately, eBay occasionally has a seller now and then, and I grab up whatever they have( in my color). It definitely covers the gray and doesn't dry my hair out, like every other brand I ever tried, and I have oily hair.

I get three colorings per package by pouring the liquid into another container and then adding the stuff from the tube when I need it.

Reviews are still on the Net. Everyone loved it, I don't know why they discontinued it.

Jenny, before you put a permanent or semi permanent dye on your hair -why don't you try something like FANCI-FUL rinse..my sister who is a hairdresser recommends it all the time to people who are just starting to color their hair..just remember, once you put a permanent dye or semi-perm dye on there..it's there till it grows out or gets cut off. For just a few grey hairs, use something less offensive to your hair..the FANCI-FUL btw comes in LOADS OF COLORS so you can change it all the time the greys you have will become highlights of your natural hair. You can pick the stuff up at most CVS stores..or some beauty shops..it costs about 6 dollars a bottle and lasts forever. Also-now they carry MOUSSE.

hmm, ok. I'll try the FANCI-FUL first. Seems like it'd be a lot easier and not as permanent.

Thanks all.

Nair makes a very good product, just avoid all instructions, put as much of it in your hair as possible
