i got a rash, man... no, really, i do...
so, after consulting several people and a few websites, i've come to the conclusion that the hiking trip i took last saturday resulted in a case of poison ivy smack dab in the face.
it didn't show until a couple days afterwards, so at first i thought i was having an allergic reaction to something i ate. then i found out that it's pretty common for poison ivy not to show up for even up to a week on first-time sufferers. in any case, i'll spare you all the spiffy details and get straight to the point: does anyone have any personal advice on how to go about treating this godforsaken plague? i'm dyin here, and it's been really hard on my co-workers, who have tried their damnedest not to stare at me as i walk around the office. any and all tips are appreciated... TIA

the fastest way, period, is to go the the doc and get a cortisone shot. it'll stop itching in a day and be gone in just a few more.
other than that, best home remedy is bleech, best store rememdy is the whatever cream has the highest %cortisone. and just to make you feel better, i'll tell you about a time my wife got poison. at a widespread panic concert. she had to pee. in the woods. which means poping a squat. in her case, right over a poison ivy plant. it was not pretty.

Happy I'm not allergic to poison ivy . . . I can wallow around in that stuff and not have a mark . . . of course, it hasn't been an issue of late . . . but when I was a kid, I was around the stuff all the darn time.

It should go away soon with the cort treatment. Just remember to change your sheets and wash them and your towels and exposed clothes REALLY well, as it's obvious you're highly sensitive to the plant. Last edited by Houdini : 03-07-2006 at 03:22 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
