Finally hired a personal trainer

so after putting it off for a long time, and not going to the gym forever, i decided to pay somone to babysit me to exercise my lazy ass, and i had my 2nd session friday, and have to go in again tomorrow, more like today, and ive been sore, and not happy.
but hopefully its worth it, and it will pay off so i can wear my gucci bikini by the pool at the Palms.
hahaha

anyone else hired a trainer before? and how much did you pay?

I think people need someone to push them. I know i do sometimes.

Around here it's going for 200.00 for three sessions. I don't use them at my gym, but they have definitely helped a lot of people.

Damn, I've been doing it for free for two of my friends. I didn't realize personal trainers could make so much cash. Do I need some kind of certification if I want to do it professionally?

My older brother did it for a year I think and paid I think 600/month and he finally got some muscles and lost weight. He would do it again but uses the money to buy tickets to Wizards games instead.

It's worth it if you can afford it and don't have the discipline but really want to tone up or whatever from what I gathered from him.

Not all make that much cash. Most of that ends back up with the gym. Almost all trainers have another job to supplement their income. The average cost for the gyms that i've belonged to are about $75 an hour. Usually if you sign up for multiple sessions they charge you the flat rate and you get a slight break in price since you have to pay more up front.

You do need to get certified to be a trainer in a gym. They won't hire you without one. A lot of community colleges offer classes in the certification. Some of the courses will walk you through what you need to know to past the cert test. I think that's pretty weak though, if you are going to be helping people you should know as much as possible not just enough to have passed the test.

Around here it is $50 an hour. In addition you have to sign a contract and agree to going at least 2x per week for 12 weeks. That is on top of the gym membership itself.

Graf and I paid ~$50-60/session (50 min long sessions). It would have been worth it if we went 2-3 times a week, but since we didn't want to pay that much (they said it would take 8-10 weeks to see results) we only did it 1x a week. That wasn't worth it - at first, we had inspiration, and went on our own, and were doing well.. then, we got lazy, and just showed up for our 1x a week session, which defeated the point. They definitely helped teach us some new exercises. If you have the money and time, I think it's worth it. It's done wonders for another friend who pays for it indefinitely, 2x a week.

my firm is hiring a 1 on 1 personal trainer twice a week for those that are interested starting next month at the sports club/la. not sure how much it costs since i don't see the bills, but i'm really looking forward to it! whoever shows the most improvement in the firm wins round trip plane tickets to anywhere in the US and i am due for a real vacation.

see, but in order to get paid, you'd have to, like, follow some rules and stuff. you'd no longer be able to make fun of them mercilessly as you train. hardly worth that, now, is it?

i work for a large law firm that specializes in intellectual property. the last case that i worked on very recently settled in our client's favor at over $300 million in damages. the current case that i've been slaving over is estimated at over $3 billion. aside from a 9.5% raise, i haven't seen 0.001% of the firm's profits so a $100/month gym membership is the least that they could offer.

really, really looking forward to the personal trainer sessions...whoever shows the most effort/improvements in the firm wins round trip tickets, hotel stays and gift certificates to really decent restaurants! i've worked too many hours past midnight and on weekends here-- i'm dying for a vacation!

Well, the friends I've been training are females with delicate egos, so I can't mock them to motivate. And believe me, I do enough making fun of others in my free time, I wouldn't need to do it while training someone.

My first thought was <baseline day> "But I CAN'T lift the 5 pound bar! It's so heavy!".

My second thought was a little more twisted. This might be a weed-out competition to see who's spending too much energy outside the office. Maybe the plane tix really aren't round-trip, 'cause you ain't coming back.

start bringing in donuts to work, and putting them in a part of the office you don't frequent (so you're not tempted yourself!)!

i got 5 "free" sessions when i paid for my 24 hour fitness package. never been more sore than working with a trainer. but it was worth it. however, since two of the trainer are my friends there, i kinda just..."borrow" their expertise when i need it.

so where do you work out at?

My sis and I started going to the gym 5 days a week since last September. She got a new job so hasnt been able to go as often but I still go atleast 4x's a week. Well she won a 1 hour session with a personal trainer and we thought woo hoo we're getting in pretty good shape no sweat...we'll just learn some new stuff. Neither one of us could walk for 2 days...it was hillarious and quite the eye opener at the same time. I think I would suggest to anyone who is just starting to get atleast 1 or 2 sessions with a trainer. I wish we had cause she taught us alot of stuff it would have been nice knowing since the beginning. Now I hope we are getting into pretty good shape...
