Dear Obby....
I want to plan a romantic (hotel room) picnic for my sweetie, and I'm thinking an Italian theme would be nice. Can you suggest some items I can pick up at the specialty deli on the way, or some easy recipes since I will be very short on time the days before and of the date. Thanks!
PS....really anyone can help with suggestions. Would a man even like something like this? I haven't dated for so long I don't know the rules. Please help!!

hotel room... food... you in some naughties...
yeah. you really can't screw that one up i'd keep it simple - maybe some really good cold cuts, really good bread, cheese, wine/champagne/beer, pesto, fresh fruit... nothing needs heating, nothing too messy, you can pack it all in a cooler of ice. enjoy yourself!!!!!!

focatia bread, nice pepperoni and italian sausages, nice hard cheeses like reggiano, ( i don't mean this to sound sexual - it's just coming out that way)
basically what welfare said......but get the good imported stuff spend the extra $$ on it. the difference in taste is amazing and if you want it to be special it will be worth it.

hey, that's no joke, i've had many a romantic candle-lit pizza dinner!! it's a good laugh, and still romantic, because it's about the thought behind the effort, not how good the food is!

Just so you know..Italians don't picnic in HOTELS..LOL..we picnic by streams and in fruit groves, and outside in the grape arbors.. ![]() In the words of my dearly departed grandmothers -who knew what all true Romantic Italian picnics needed...I would advise you to keep it simple..stay away from the deli meats (they cause GAS AND BAD BREATH..how romantic is that?)..classic Italian picnic food is a nice hunk of ROMANO CHEESE(not parmaseana reggiano-but ROMANO..it might stink but it does not leave your breath smelling like old boots.and the saltiness of it blends well with the fruity undertones of the olive oil) some nice crusty bread, a dish of Olive oil (no herbs, no salt, nothing..just the oil) to dip it in, some Orange slices, and a nice bottle of chianti...and for good luck..some torrone (nougat candy) if you can find it..oh, and btw..you don't have to break the bank getting all imported stuff either for theme sake..I prefer Berio Olive Oil myself..and as far as the chianti goes..they make some nice, almost homemade tasting stuff that they sell in most Liquor stores..sometimes kiddo-SIMPLICITY is best..you're not auditioning for the Food Network are you? I thought not. Why bother with all that fancy scmancy stuff when you can do it the right -authentic way-for a heck of alot less.. Last edited by oblongmelon : 04-20-2006 at 10:44 PM. |

well, if i was the guy, and my girl was treating me to a "picnic themed" hotel stay, id prefer the food to be light. nothing too heavy that will make me drowsy, and later on not make me "return the favor".
![]() but definitely, id love to top off a nice picnic with some sweets - fruits like strawberries with some cream, or grapes, etc (if youre not allergic) which can be used for later on , or one of my favorite sweets CANNOLI! i dunno, i just love cannoli....im not sure if youve tried it before, but sips of limoncello for after-dinner drinks seems nice. though you have to be sure both of you like it first. man, this is great! two of my favorite things in 1 evening: food and making love! now maybe if i stop doing too much of one, id actually get some of the other.... ![]() ![]()
