Question Gift Ideas for Baby's 1st Birthday?

Hey everyone!

My nephew is turning 1 this weekend and I still need to find him a nice gift. I'm not sure what the favorite toys are for his age range, but I was looking through amazon for some of the strongest rated children’s toys and the Leap Frog had excellent reviews across the board. When my niece was around my nephew’s age, my sister bought her the Leap Frog and she only tossed it aside as another stuffed animal. We still have it in excellent condition, so I’d rather get some real advice from the GotApex parents, aunts, uncles, etc.. on what’s really worth buying. It can be anything outside of toys as well, but I can’t think of much else except for clothes. Any price range is fine as long as it will be used and enjoyed. Thanks in advance!

He's 1. Get him a "I've got your nose" magic trick performance.

Clothes. When my nieces were that young, they'd have more fun with the gift box then the toy that was in it, so I just got them things I knew the parents would appreciate, like clothes, or maybe some cute toys that would play lullabys to help them sleep.

I'd recommend the Lamaze line of toys. My niece loved the ones she had.

A little toy, and a nice piece of jewelry for the parents to put away for the child for when they are older..and a savings bond. Or a CD.

Educational stuff. When our kids turned 1...the last thing we wanted was more "toys"....meaning the mindless shaker rattle make some noise push the button toys.

We wanted more educational toys like books and learning videos...stuff like that.

Well if you want to make it a toy the whole family can enjoy get one of those little tykes piano/ xylophone things. They make alot of noise and his parents will just loooove you....

Clothes are key, esp. if this is a first child. Buy something a little too big that they can use in 6 months or so. If you buy something that fits today, they'll probably only get a few uses out of it.

Be careful when you buy presents for 1-year-olds. If they think it's crap they'll hold it against you forever.

you know... there's nothing i appreciate more than an amazon or target gift card. whatever you give... give a gift receipt with it, because every kid is different. i think leap pads are the dumbest g-d thing around... but all three of my kids are obsessed with the alphabet, spelling, reading, writing, and have been from about 6 months onward... turns out, they love their leap pads to death (and my mom racked up another i-told-you-so ). most kids never touch them, tho.

clothes... there's nothing i hate more than getting clothes for my kids. i have nowhere to PUT more clothes for my freakin kids. but people... keep... buying them...

i also hate crap that makes noise when moved... crap that needs batteries...
but it's the perfect gift for some kids/parents.

here's the best gift my kids ever got, and they got them at age 1 (and now they turned 3, and i actually jsut replaced them with new ones since they wore the original ones out.)

little tykes flashlight, comes in lion, dinosaur, cow, and puppy, $8, they have it at toys'r'us. squeeze handle, it makes a roar/moo/etc and a light comes on; shuts of automatically in 2 minutes, and you can squeeze it again to turn it back on. batteries last a fairly long time. it made all the difference in the world at bedtime here... couldn't give em a nightlight, since they'd just pull it out and then not only be in the dark, but have an empty socket to stick things into... they really like playing with the flashlights in their dark room, so no screaming, jsut some giggling and roaring and then quiet and dark... ahhhh...
