Plebe
I just purchased Asus CUSL2 and I want to swap it with my current Abit BF6 board without fresh install of Win98SE. I have swapped boards successfuly in the past, but this is new for me since these boards have different chipsets. Has anyone performed this swapping without a problem? Yes, I know, I should be better off to perform a fresh OS install...but I don't have enough time to re-install all applications, patches, drivers, updates, etc.
The Intel utility program on the Asus driver CD checks your board and install only the drivers that matches the board's chipset type, in my case BF-6.
There are many ways to swap your old board with a new one without a fresh OS install, everyone has their method. Is Anyone aware of a web site with solid information on this subject. Thanks in advance.

recently i swapped a harddrive from a celeron/bx system to a athlon/kt133 system. on the harddrive was an installation of win98, and it still worked after the swap. when win98 booted it just asked to install some drivers for the new mobo. i don't actually run win98 on this system though so i erased the hd, but it did work.

It will just ask for drivers for the new mobo. There shouldn't be any problem at all.

Boot into safe mode and then in the Device Manager, remove all motherboard related items... then reboot and let Windows detect the new items. Should be a two restart process... and not much more... assuming you have a Windows 98 disc.
Dave.
