PC100/133 RAM Question

I have a Celeron 466 PC, will a PC133 SDRAM works on it? or I have to use PC100 SDRAM?

It should work fine. It is ok to underclock ram, i.e. pc133 should run fine at any speed under 133Mhz. The only thing that would prevent it from working is if it isnt the correct ram for your mobo.

Right... RAM doesn't have an operating speed of its own... just a rating. PC133 RAM is guaranteed to work all the way up to 133MHz. PC100 RAM is guaranteed to work at least at 100MHz... and so on. While they may be able to operate at speeds higher than their ratings, they are only guaranteed to work at speeds UP TO their ratings.

The RAM doesn't decide the speed. The motherboard decides the speed.

Get PC133 because (aside from being the same price, or less, as PC100) you might also be able to use it in your next computer that will likely need PC133... not PC100.

I, too am in that situ. I just bought a PC133 128 from accessmicro.com ($70+ship!!!). I will be adding it to my PC100 128 on my PII-450.

Now...for that CPU upgrade deal...

be careful bires, I dont quite understand how it can happen but I have heard that you can run into problems when mixing mem of different speeds.

...trying to be careful. I'm not 100% sure it will work. But, as long as the mem has gold leads (to prevent oxidation) and is rated above my current ram (running at 124MHz), the odds are on my side.

I'm alwaysa bit unsure about ordering inside-computer parts on-line, but for $70 I had to give accessmicro a shot.
