    Question

Is anyone running an Athlon processor with a power supply that isn't on AMD's approved list? As long as you have plenty of juice, does it really matter?

    Thanks,

    Scott

before i got an athlon approved power supply (300w sparkle) i had a generic 250w one, the system worked but it locked up whenever i ran outlook express. that was the only thing that wouldnt run for some reason, the new power supply fixed that. who knows if it wasnt enough juice or if it needed to be an approved power supply but you're probably better off using an approved power supply just so whenever you have problems you dont have to wonder if its the power supply. besides they're only like $40.

Well, I'll just break down and get the Antec SX830. I've had my eye on one for a while now, anyway.

    Thanks fellas.

    Unhappy

I bought the 300W power supply from CompUSA.

Worked fine for about 2 months then went bye-bye.

Replaced it with 300W Sparkle and it's been fine since.

BTW - The sparkle PS was only $10 more than the CompUSA one.
