Thread: Need Help With Napster

I am having trouble getting a list of songs and connecting to the web with Napster. I am able to make the initial connection with Napster but when i try to pull a list of songs or go to the help section. It fails.

Here is what I am using to connect to the web:

    Win 98 SE
    I.E 5.5
    Cable modem
    LinkSys Router
    ZoneAlarm Firewall

The router was installed a couple of days ago and Napster does not seem to work. I haven't used Napster in a while so I do not know if the Router is the problem.
My roommate, who is also connected to he Router, is able to use Napster.

    Any help would be appreciated.

i'm using a linksys router and zonealarm and my napster connection works fine... so i'm not sure it is your router that's the problem

Try lowering the security settings on ZoneAlarm.

Are you at school? A lot of schools have banned Napster connections due to lawsuits, etc. They may have the connection blocked at their firewall.

No I am not in School. I have reinstalled Napster and I have also tried different programs such as "sour exchange" but nothing seems to work.

I have tried napster w/ the zonealarm turned off and it still doesn't work. I have no idea what is going on.

Thanks for your inputs so far.

    Lightbulb Napster is fun...

You might want to try a couple of things:
    1) The easiest way to get Napster working is to put the PC you are running napster on in the DMZ on the router. Then Allow Napster to run and act as aserver in Zone Alarm.
This is what I did and it worked very well

    2) Uninstall Napster then re-install while behind the firewall. Napster will complain and give you the option to say you are behind a firewall and there is nothing you can do about it. Then Napster should work but other users behind firewalls may not be able to interface with you...

    Good Luck
