Heads-UP you guys who took advantage of that insane Dell offer for the Dimension L series.

#1. You probably have not gotten an Order number. That's b/c they don't really want to fulfill your order.

#2. Called them up and they are no longer building the 566 Celeron config. If you haven't contacted them by now, you will never get your hands on that machine at that price. They'll instead try to upgrade you to the 800mhz machine (i asked and still am waiting for a quote - the day this was ordered, it was a $140 option....you think that'll stick? I think not).

#3. If you ordered the 800mhz option. You will get your computer but you'll still have to call them up to bitch. The offer that was posted was supposed to be a promotion for businesses - if you're a home user, it's a few hundred bucks more....however, i just gave my company name and the lady took it with little hassle.

They'll be hoops to jump to get this to the build stage...it's however worth it.

I just got off the phone with Dell (Lewis at x43349) and it seems they are not offering this deal even though I completed my order without error. They claim it was a programming error on their WebSite and they have a right to change prices after an order was placed. Nowhere on my order confirmation (Purchase Order) nor on the E-mail confirmation is there such a notice.

They also said that you could not have both the $100 Special Offer discount and the 3 Years Next Business Day On-Site Parts & Labor Warranty. Finally they said that the system must have at least 64MB. After the changes, the price of the system jumped around $235.

Maybe if enough of us group together we can force them to honor the deal or get sued in a class action suit.

Just an update: My friend and I got our systems ordered. Not for the same price but basically we got free shipping and at $85, that's a significant $$ for a $700 system. You won't get the 566mhz but they'll build a 600mhz that is currently on the linked page. The key is to bitch and mention that you'll complain to your state attorney if they don't honor their offer.
