FAT32 ---> NTFS 5.0 in Win2k Adv. Server

Anyone know if there is a way to convert from FAT32 to NTFS 5.0 on win2k advanced server after you have already done the install? I'd hate to do an install again unless i have to.

I am not positive about this but it should be the same. On Win2k pro inside the administration tools you would have 'computer management'. should be the same in adv.server. Inside here, it acts like win explorer... click on storage on the left. It will expand and show 'disk management'. On the right, you will see your drives. You can format and choose the file system. Of course this will work if it isn't your primary drive

I think that you can go into the same spot that he was talking about and I think you can choose to convert on next boot. Haven't played with win2000 any version in at least 6 months, tough to remember.

Went to a chatroom on mirc last night and found this out to convert to ntfs, and I have ntfs 5.0 now

convert c: fs:ntfs

I "think" that's wut I did...I don't fully remember...it was last night very late...but I know it had fs:ntfs somewhere in there, and hey, IT WORKED!

Anyway thanks for that help...I had to do this from command prompt...dunno how to do it from disk management.

FYI: I think that command line also works on NT4

yeah, it does. But to be nitpicky, the command is "convert c: /fs:ntfs". And In NT 4, you can't convert from FAT32, b/c NT 4 didn't support that file system.
