How to build an affiliate program for my site?

OK, maybe the wrong place to ask this but...

I have a small ecommerce site, and I was wondering if anyone knew of the easiest/safest/most secure way to add affilite capabilities to my site.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where I could find this out, I would really appreciate taht also.
