the only difference is the software that comes with it and that the platinum 5.1 comes with a live drive and a remote. Personally i dont think its worth a hundred bucks.

    Question

ive seen the box, the live drive is this panel that you put in an open 5 1/4" opening in the front of your computer. it has a whole bunch of inputs, outputs and dials. i dont know what they are all for, but i would like to make some audio cd mixes off of non cd media. (this isnt really worth a hundred bucks to me.) i dont know if these will help much. i already have some audio inputs in my ati radeon all in wonder card, but i want to know what all the stuff in the live platinum front panel. you can also upgrade the xgamer 5.1 to take the front panel, but the panel costs over $100.

does the sound blaster live platinum 5.1 have optical outputs so you can connect to minidisc players?

Yeah gear, the site says it does, but you should check out the box to make sure.
