MP3 Portable CDRom...

Has anyone used one of these? It seems like a great idea.

I was wondering about it's reliability, the sound quality, and what kind of has skip protection it has (for use in a car).(Ignoring the product description-I want testimonials)

its an awesome idea, you can burn your own mp3 cds which can hold 650mb of music. you might be able to wait for some big name manufacturers to make somthing like this, but they will try to keep this technology down. imagine sony making an mp3 discman, what is going to happen to the $400 music player that hold 64 megs max on thier expensive proprietary magicgate memory stick? those things cost over $100 and hold less then 1/10th the amount of music than even sony's own CD-Rs which cost around 3 bucks each or a cheap cd-r which goes for less than 50 cents when purchased individually. of course once they lose market share to some small no name company which sells their products under $100 big business will have to listen and meet demand. there will always be a market for the $500 gadgets that sony makes, cuz damn that player is small, but for the most of us, a $90 cd audio/mp3 combo is all we are willing to spend on. i love sony and at any given moment i have 3 things on me that are sony, but im not crazy rich and no way in hell will i buy something that restrictive and expesive especially when there is so much more cost efficient products out there.

Aiwa makes a car headunit as well as a portable.
Anyone have info on them? Or any car headunit that plays MP3's, for that matter

There are two listed at Crutchfield - a Kenwood and the Aiwa. The Kenwood is horrendously expensive (priced at over $700), and the Aiwa has been delayed time and again. Oh well, maybe someone else will get their act together and come out with an affordable in-dash unit some time this decade.

Thats strange, cuz aiwa is ownd by sony and is one of their influential audio r&d departments

Is that for real? I remember hearing something about that a while back, but figured it was just rumours since they had so many overlapping products.

AIWA used to be Sony's China R/D, before they moved nearly all of their R/D to China. When the label did pretty well (2nd line stuff) they kept it and pushed it as the "home line" of audio products.
